Well You can still hit back up on phone without refreshing. It just wouldn't give you an updated home page. But if you are quickly checking the threads, that should suffice and save you that extra step and extra second to refresh the page. I do that all the time and after checking all threads I wish to check out, I give the home page a refresh before leaving to check for new threads and new comments.

Use this useful process to help memorise which threads you've been to. Make a story of the threads you've visited. You'll be surprised how it help. It doesn't have to make sense as long as it's a story. So you can make a story that goes, 'I went the the general discussion threads and it was being attacked by UFOs so I ran to safety to the PlayStation community.  Shuhei was there telling a story about Jim Ryan but I had no time to stay so I wondered off to the xbox community thread, there was nobody there so I rode around on a horse...' etc. Just remember that story and you'll easily remember the threads you've  been to and save that 1 second refresh time by reading that story through in your head.

I will not shy away from the irony of creating a thread and writing 2591 characters (...and counting) to try and lobby for my 1 saved click per thread read only while on a mobile device...

...totally worth it.

i copied the text i actually wrote into a word document.  i'm fairly certain my number is correct.

well that's not nothing so i appreciate the effort.   ...but it's also not exactly on the screen when i get to the bottom of a thread.   ...as in i need to scroll past the last post to get to that button.   i'd prefer Pi's suggestion:
