i don't agree with your statement about sony.   we've had an acquisition pretty much every month for a while now.  given that acquisitions take multiple months of negotiations sony will have had to have several talks going on at once.   just because bungie closed does not mean they don't have more in discussion nor does "final stages of negotiations" mean it won't take a month or two to get announced.

however,... the bungie deal took everyone by surprise.  if geoff has heard about them i feel like there is a good chance the ones he's heard about are not sony.  only MS is that sloppy...
Did anyone see the MS Bethesda or MS Activision deal coming?

If the MS and activision deal is gonna get investigated and them not being able to buy anything else for 18 months is true then its likely not MS buying any more.

From what I understand the "not buying anything for 18" is speculative in regards to any other purchases jeopardising the government blocking the Activision deal. Its speculative at the end of the day. And I doubt MS buying a studio the size of CDPR or playground games for example would jeopardise that.

I think a purchase like EA or take two however would.

Really is such a good get for Sony when you really think about it as a single studio
but what's the ratio from pre-orders to purchases?

I'll assume pre-orders for a live game is much much higher than a single player game.  like back when I played WoW,.. of course I pre-ordered the expansions.   if I didn't the alternative was to quit the game.  so is 1 million representative of half the active user base??    ..if so that's smaller then I would have thought.

Destiny 2 in 2017 was the second highest revenue game in North America just after COD.

Data becomes pretty much non existent after that.  Bungie pulled away from Activision the following year.

It's routinely been in the biggest games for PlayStation by play time, and Steam by revenue.

The first game was running 25 million players and growing.

You don't need to buy the DLC/expansions to keep playing the game. There's lots of cheap micro transactions.

Pachter said Sony made a bad deal, and that the game has a yearly revenue of $200 million.

Considering how it charts, I feel like that estimate has to be very low.

But this acquisition isn't just about destiny 2. It has other goals:

- Destiny 2 and its continued revenue
- new IP "Matter"
- Expanding Destiny into tv/film and other media
- gaining expertise and experience in the GaaS gaming sector and bungie supporting other PS Studios with their GaaS games
- Possible new games after Matter

Compared to MS buying mojang and minecraft for 2.5 billion, this doesn't seem like a bad deal, considering the talent and prestige that bungie as a studio have compared to Mojang which was a one hit wonder.
