Yet today I feel like steamdeck will be meh. The linus video gave me too many flashbacks to the steam controller and steam link. I use both from time to time, but they feel poorly developed compared to Microsoft/Sony stuff.
How so?

I feel like this is quite a bit better. A controller has a lot of competition, and I think steam link was rather niche.

There is a sense with a lot of Valve products of really good, but there are compromises.

I'll wait for a steam deck 2, with better specs. I believe this one is good and will succeed, but usually with new hardware lines I liklike to wait till a "version 2" comes out, usually its much better. And id like it to play most new games at at least 2k high settings.

The steam controller and steam link were half baked. If it wasn't for the steam logo, you'd think they were random third party products.

I got similar vibes from the video. Linus and his wife having slight issues with holding it is a sign the design isn't super polished. Same with haptics. Also in the video the screen looked low quality in a few shots.

It's nothing definitive, just a 180 from how I was feeling before. ATM I could see it going either way, but I'd put the higher odds on Valve moving on in 5 years.

I imagine the index was valves best hardware.

But it's pretty outdated and very overpriced now.

Any way to tell how well it's doing?

Sales wise, no idea.
Is still reserved out until Q2.

Another review here: a lot of surprising software bugs.

Seems happy about the hardware, software is the big complaint

QuoteInterestingly, Newell said he "would not have guessed" that the $649 Steam Deck model, which includes 512GB of NVMe SSD internal storage and an anti-glare etched glass, had outsold the $399 entry-level model, which has 64GB of slower eMMC internal storage.

According to Newell, the preorder numbers (not disclosed to IGN) and the popularity of the flagship model, has led Valve to think about whether it "should continue to look at higher-end configurations." When asked if Valve was thinking about new Steam Deck models in the future, Newell confirmed as much.

Steam Deck is now being reserved for after Q3.
