Sony acquires Nixxes Software

Apparently they are a PC port studio.  

So not the greatest news.  

But apparently a lot of technical talent.

SAN MATEO, Calif., July 1, 2021 - Sony Interactive Entertainment ("SIE") announced today that SIE has completed the acquisition of Nixxes Software B.V. ("Nixxes"), an industry-leading Dutch studio with more than 20 years of experience in game development and optimization. Based in Utrecht, Netherlands, effective immediately, Nixxes will join PlayStation Studios Technology, Creative & Services Group to provide high quality in-house technical and development capabilities for PlayStation Studios.

"I highly respect Nixxes and am excited for this very experienced team to become part of the world-class development community at SIE," said Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios. "They have a passion for improving games and for delivering the best possible experience for gamers. Terms of this transaction including the acquisition cost are not disclosed due to contractual commitments.

oh boy, i think i'll avoid resetera today,.. it will be insufferable.

it's not all bad news i suppose.  the inevitiable port of horizon to PC won't matter to me as much if sony has a dedicated (and new) porting studio and those resources aren't coming from GG, sucker punch, ND, insomniac directly.   keeping them making new content and not supporting PC is some marginal benefit to me as a console owner.

edit, wonder if they could do any ps1/2/3/4 to ps5 ports as well.  

i'd love to have the ratchet and clank backlog ported to ps5 even as a "lazy port"

They have done console ports, so might not be the case that they port to PC.

i mean, imo it seems obvious that porting ps exclusives to PC is going to be the main reason sony bought them. 

but i could also see them put to use doing ps4 to ps5 ports for some of their key releases.   i don't really see ND going back and doing a ps5 upgrade for uncharted 4 or fromSoft doing one for bloodborne for instance.  ...but maybe this studio could do it quickly.   would get a lot of happy playstation fans to see a few of those key games upgraded for ps5.

They also have PSVR experience. They did a Tomb Raider VR experience port.

yes, but GoW, Horizion, Spiderman, and whatever ND does next is a better set of games than 6 years of gamepass's crud.   so whatcha gonna do?

wonder if we'll get another surprise studio or 2 before bluepoint is announced.

I love PS5 just like I love PS3. The great games will still be there.

But yeah I've given up on it being a PS4 round 2.
