Awesome, we knew it would happen. These are the good kind of acquisitions, a studio that built a strong partnership with the company and were basically making exclusives anyway, now giving them the financial security and stronger integration for support and whatnot.

No way this happens by accident, the banner having Returnal and Demons Souls in it suggests to me this is supposed to be announced later but they attached the wrong one. Could be at the upcoming show alongside their next game.

Do you think the banner suggests they are buying bluepoint studios next?

Also this is awesome news, after the relatively low sales of retournal I was afraid Sony would end the collaboration with housemarque. I wonder if retournal 2 is next or a new IP.

The banner in the second post definitely does.

Seeing as it's the first banner with Demons souls added to it, with Bluepoint over top

You won't be disappointed. Evil sony doing evil sony things.

Legend

Good for the studio. I remember them being in a tough spot after resogun during PS4. They made a lot of games that didn't stick.

Bluepoint being confirmed too is not bad, but I wonder what was going on behind the scenes. Maybe this will allow the studio to make original games, or maybe they are happy with remakes and Sony made a great offer. Their last xbox game was Titanfall 360.

Sony needs to have BP make a new game from scratch and see how that goes before acquiring them. If they really have already acquired them I do hope they let them make a new IP or a new game from scratch.

Bloodborne 2 seems like a fitting project for them.

Dr. Pezus

Hopefully this allows them to grow even more.

Bluepoint is probably already making a new game. I'm sure Sony liked their project and acquired them because of it and their past projects

i've said it before,.. making a new game requires a lot of talent in key positions that aren't needed for remasters.   even though they clearly have a ton of talent in the execution of a game they are unproven that can make an original idea that is fun and interesting and even with sony their to coach them it will take a long time to develop an original game.

i think bluepoint will do a few remasters at the same time as a new ip.   the remasters should be easy to pump out for a while keeping them financially worth while to sony for a few years and then mid/late gen ps5 we'll see their first original IP release.  probably around 2024/5/6 depending on how ambitious the title is.

if they ship something original sooner then i'd expect it to be them taking over a franchise from someone else; probably uncharted.   i mostly hope they don't go that route though because it would make everyone "compare" them to the orignal dev and that almost certainly won't end well for them.

Why PlayStation bought Returnal developer Housemarque: the inside story | British GQ

QuoteHermen Hulst: That was actually super useful. It was easy for me to pick up the phone last year when I've not been in the role for that long. I think it was back in 2006 that Ilari with his core team came down to Amsterdam when I was struggling to get Killzone: Liberation for PSP out the door.
QuoteYou mentioned Housemarque has already been making games for Sony for a long time, Ilari. Why fully join PlayStation Studios now?

IK: Well, recently we started to do something bigger, something more ambitious and we had a lot of collaboration with various studio teams as well. The results were great and that started to bring some ideas of what the future might look like. What if we could get even closer together and be even more ambitious?

BananaKing

I hope they make a doom like FPS. With a 2016 doom like multiplayer

Sony began talks to buy Housemarque last year, got delayed due to Returnal.

Apparently they were really struggling before Returnal.
