Switch is insane.

Interesting to note that we could have said PS5 was the best selling console by $ in history after 4 months without its 4th month.

Well, for PS5's 3 month $ sales to be lower than PS4's 4 month $ sales it would need PS5DE to be >40% share of PS5's total sales. Which just is not the case.

I would have hated it, but both Sony and Microsoft could have gone with $600 and been fine. Amazing how this gen had the absolute worst leadup to launch outside xbox one, yet the raw demand can't be quenched.

Its the same as Switch. PS5 and XBS haven't really done much to deserve this super high demand, just like Switch has done nothing to deserve these ridiculous record breaking sales.

Also considering Mat didn't say PS5 is fastest selling by units we can safely assume PS5 < 326k

PS4 was at 2.54M so PS5 is ~2515-2540k after 4 months.

This makes Feb have a range of 285-325k for PS5.

Era prediction results are in, these are the ranges:

613k < Switch < 615k (Switch = 614k +/- 1k, very nice)
288k < PS5 < 307k
XBS < 175k

I good head start for ps5.  they are going to need as big a lead as possible once MSs first party starts being productive in 2022 or 2023.

Yes, here's my estimate for their LTDs (using this month as ~165k for XBS):

PS5 2.52M
XBS 1.79M

You really think Sonys first party will just stop?

You guys are really underestimating Sonys first party. Another ghost game will be coming by then. God of war. Gt7, spiderman 2, another days gone, most likely another kojima game, and by 2023 another ND game.

Do you guys understand how strong sonys first party is right now? Only Bethesda games can compete with the numbers these games are doing. Just the elder scrolls, fallout and doom do these numbers. Starfield will have lots of hype too, and will most likely sell very well. But its still a new IP and doesn't have the selling power of fallout or elder scrolls

Halo isn't what it used to be. This gen from what we know halo 5 shipped 5 million within the first 5 months. And it was a poster on era who said it. Not MS. The game most likely didn't reach 10 million. Its likely closer to days gone than it is to horizon. And games like god of war and spiderman are already in leagues of its own when it comes to sales.

Sony won't just stop building its first party. Yes, MS has bought Bethesda, its a big deal. But its no nail in the coffin for Sony. And MS has to prove it can actually manage first party studios, because its been 3 full gens now, and they literally have not produced one mega franchise within their first party

Halo - bought while mid development.
Gears - was third party
Forward- big, but no mega franchise
Minecraft - bought. Also multiplate

of course sony will still make games, but MS has double the developers and an open wallet looking to buy more.

...and unlike sony's aquisitions every MS aquisition is removing another game/franchise from sony.   MS has not brought any new games to their system,.. they removed ~30 AAA games from ps5.    the periods of no games is going to become more frequent on playstation and last gen had quite a lot of those anyways as games got bigger.
