AI that actually reacts to the player being OP?

Was playing crusader kings 2 with console commands. Was like a god based off the numbers. Yet based off AI reactions, I was still just a random leader of a random country.

Why is this so common? From action games to strategy games, NPCs pretty much only react to murder. Kill a citizen and everyone freaks out. Stand on a fire without taking damage and no one cares.

Something that bothers me is when they start begging for their life. So you try sparing them.
And then they resume attacking.
Lame as heck.

When they are ignoring numbers it's one thing, but when they are clearly getting beaten. It's bothersome.

It'd be cool if some tried running away, or tried to trick the player by attacking from behind or something else.

1. because it is expensive.   that kind of attention to detail of NPCs is something that really stood out to me when i played TLoU but its not free.  every reaction you want the NPC to react to needs to be animated an that costs money.

2. because it is a game.   is your enjoyment of a game really going to come down to having NPCs tried to pull you out of standing on a fire?  seriously?  i can think of about a billion more important things a game developer can work on to make a good game.  i want to play a game not a life simulator..

1. In a game like Civilization or Crusader Kings it isn't really expensive. The whole game is built around stuff like that. It's also not that expensive to just have a few animations or voice lines.

2. I'm talking about the player being overpowered. Game of thrones Khaleesi stuff where people worship you or think you're a demon because the fire isn't burning you.

I think game balance is the bigger problem. Most games do everything possible to keep the game difficult and challenging from beginning to end, so acknowledging player strength goes against that. Infamous and Prototype I think kinda did this at least with citizens.

Would be cool if they fought dirty, like they knew the odds were against them but they were desperate.

Skyrim is the antithesis to this haha.

I personally think there's plenty of room for all kinds of experiences.

I love games.

But I also enjoy experiencing worlds.
