(WCCFTECH-Rumor) Lockhart Will Be Half The Price Of The Series X; Series X prepared to be $400, July Event Will Be A "Night Of Mic Drops" | ResetEra

Quotewccftech.com   Xbox Series S/Lockhart Will Be Half The Price Of The Series X; July Event Will Be A "Night Of Mic Drops" - Rumor  According to rumors circulating online, the Xbox Series S will be half the price of the Series X and it will be an important part of MS's strategy   wccftech.com wccftech.com
QuoteSpeaking on the Beyond3D forums, eastmen, who has proved in the past to have access to Microsoft insider information, revealed that the Xbox Series S will be half the price of the Series X, come in a small form factor and it will be an all-digital console. The insider doesn't know the final pricing for the Xbox Series X, and thus the Series X, but he had heard that Microsoft was prepared for a $400 Xbox Series X.  Click to expand... QuoteBut from what I"ve heard from all my sources July isn't about sony , July is about the industry and they want it to be a night of mic drops . They are going to come hard with the strategy they have been building up to for years and they want google , amazon , apple , sony and yes Nintendo to shaken up . So expect a series of Mic drop moments followed by the price being the key part of all this.  Click to expand... Click to shrink...
QuoteThat's why I think Lockheart is a key device in their strategy. Its low cost gateway that they can control to make sure the hardware can handle their new compression techniques they will employee with xcloud over the next few years. The plan for Lockheart is to get into price categories they were never able to hit before and I believe based on listening between the lines that they expect lockheart to at some point make it down to fire tv size . Also the size of the first lockheart will surprise everyone.  Click to expand... Click to shrink...

All of this sounds like fanboy nonsense lol, but it would be awesome if it was that cheap.

Dr. Pezus

Lol sure. But good of true. Will pressure Sony to keep their price low

$200 and $400 would indeed be a mic drop announcement..

..but considering the bill of materials estimate is greater than $400 MS would be losing billions of dollars in the first year.   i can see no reason as to why MS would benefit from losing that much money.  the fanboys always talk about how MS is going to throw their billions around to win the console war but i really don't see why MS would do that.  pride?   losing money is kind of the opposite of the point of business.

i mean, for fudges sake, the xbox one s isn't even $200 yet but somehow lockhart will be?

this rumor is only setting xbox up for disappointment when they don't announce this.   someone must really hate MS to have started this rumor.

Press X to doubt. No way the series X is $400, they'd make a ridiculous loss.

I don't think $399 is implausible.  The loss would probably be ~$150, which could be made up fairly easily with gamepass and Xbox Live.

But the only way I'd see it happening is if Sony were to put the PS5 at $399.

It's the $199 Lockhart that is ridiculous.  Even with the much weaker GPU, the loss would probably be larger.  It'd have to have the same CPU and SSD and RAM more than likely. The bigger issue here is the price doesn't really have anywhere to go.

I just want to say that I love that this OP is a forum post linking to a forum post about an article about a post on a forum.

The person is suggesting $399 for a digital only XSX and $499 for the regular.

Launching 3 SKUs would be a bit much.

The price is definitely right.  But who knows.  Still, I wonder how a 1080p Xbox Next, or whatever it's called, would fair.  Would devs really have to work to get their games working?

I just don't see the point of lockhart.

They are putting so much focus on xbox one support. Why is lockhart needed?

No current xbox one owners will buy one unless it does something special. Will all xsx games be forced to support it?

i agree.  it is rumored to be an ~xbox one in power with an SSD?   what's the point if xbox one is getting cross gen supported for 2 years.   will people really want this in 6 years?  i don't think so.
