Is it the right choice that FFVII Remake is coming as many parts?

By all accounts the first part is excellent, and I've heard it contains a solid amount of content.  The game is a solid 30+ hours from start to finish, with lots of side content as well.

But in order to finish the entire story, it seems likely that players will be paying out $100's, when all is said and done.

I have no idea if its right, we have yet to see the other parts. However, I can say I'm fine with it. It feels like its using a source material and expanding upon it in a meaningful way. Its like making multiple movies out of one book, it can turn out awesome if its done right as it allows for much more time for better character development and fleshing out of the world.

So far it seems FF7 Remake is really nailing this, and it just happens the source material is an older game. For people who already know the overall story it might not be as worth it, but for me its something new and the other parts are basically sequels which will answer the questions still up in the air and progress the world further, which is what sequels normally do.

From what I've read, fans of the original are loving it and seem to be happy about paying much more overall if it means much more content that's all top quality.

Guess I've been on a media blackout because I thought it was only going to have a part one and part 2.

How many are people expecting, just as a raw number?

More than likely ~3.  But they have no idea.

From the SE directors:
QuoteWe have a general idea of how the story will play out, but we haven't decided exactly [how many parts], nor can we confirm anything. There's speculation that it will be 3 parts, but we're just doing things one step at a time.
QuoteDepends on how many parts the overall story will be. If we divide the story into large parts, it'll take longer to make. If we divide it into more detailed smaller sections, then developing it will be faster. I hope to release the next one ASAP.

As I alluded to in another thread.  I'm sure they probably could have gotten it all done in the 5 years if they just focused on actually remaking the game.  Does that make this game any less good?  No, I'm 100% sure the game is fantastic.  My concern are the other parts.  The next part of the game is where the over-world starts.   That, I would imagine, is what would have been the hardest part to make, next to the towns.  So they either get the over-world finished, and thus 80% of the original game(I would imagine the towns need to get made with the world), or they cut it all out, which will be disappointing for sure.  It also depends how the next title sells in 3, or however many years.  Which I suspect will be comparatively bad. Which will make part 3 an interesting title. Best case scenario is that they make a continent a part and then, hopefully, put it all together at the end, and let you play from start to finish with a lush overworld to explore. I doubt that though.

Yeah its really up in the air which is okay, they gotta work out what's best depending on feedback and how things are going. Sticking to an original arbitrary plan might have been a bad idea.

Part 1 is only ~15% of the original game, but like dark said next is the overworld which they could streamline rather than pan out. It could really go any way. A massive empty overworld I don't think woudl work well, I'm sure they have a good plan for it.
