Its just the videos that would have been sent to news outlets explaining the announcements which got leaked this week (XSS & price, XSX price, EA play coming to game pass)

lol, this is a technical caveat for the kind of gamer that cares about this.  MS's marketing message is "Backward Compatible!".    ...but yes that headline is quite hard to read even for a guy like me who is very much in the know.

So basically it's worse than x1x for everything other than series games

well, all it's really saying is series s would need to be optimized differently than xbox one x.  it would seem that MS is going to make series s specific optimizations but 3rd parties are not.  makes sense,.. why would they when there is no money it it for them and the customer for series s is the customer that chose to not prioritize great graphics over price.

xbox is going to be a real drag on development budgets with their separate optimizations required for: xbox one s, xbox one x, xbox series s, xbox series x.    cross gen was bad enough when there wasn't two spec's per generation.  good thing ms is marking the xbox series x as a thing that mostly just increases resolution and framerates because that will be easier for developers to deal with if they simply target series s as lead xbox platform.

In terms of raw power only its CPU is better than X, but everything is on newer and more efficient architecture. It means that games optimised for it will be better but it will run unoptimised games worse.

Yes I think a lot of third parties will just lower and lower resolution, texture quality and things like that until it runs well. They won't bother with any serious optimisation, especially if series S sells worse than expected. It'll lead to a lot of series S games not looking good.
