I know but it just sounds like a battleship reason since the other one worked very well with great facial animations before

By my eye: old spidey looked late twenties, new spidey looks early twenties, Miles looks late teens. Also that picture makes Miles look older than he does in motion as we saw in the demo.

the jump to next-gen means higher fidelity and realism with the facial scans / muscle movements / rigs / animations etc

I'd put that more on Miles looking old for a 16 year old (at least in that pic) than Peter looking too young for his age.

And they've given a reason, it's just that it's a technical one that for most people is hard to grasp.

Seems to me like with next gen higher fidelity and better modelling, it started to look weird with the voice coming out of Peter's mouth. Perhaps they decided it just didn't match and wasn't believable. I've definitely had some times in games or animation where I think there's no way this person would have this voice.

I didn't even know the PP actor didn't look like that original look lol. Voice seemed completely believable. They didn't use face capture in the PS4 version? Definitely seemed like they did, and with other characters as well like doc oc

All the mocap is done by Yuri, so they animate the facial expressions and movements based on what Yuri does when he's delivering the lines. With a face that's shaped so differently to his with quite different bone structure, you can imagine how it'd start to look bad/ weird when they try to make animations more detailed and nuanced. I guess its more of a fault of them picking the wrong face model first time round and not thinking ahead about this being a potential problem.
