I suppose the Pro models in this gen didn't actual do much to extend console lifetimes, I think all they did was allow the price of the lower model to stay a bit higher meaning increased profits.

If both PS5 and nextbox launch with a basic and pro model, do you think they should release a pro pro halfway through which is even more powerful?
Pro and X could use newer tech. If MS releases a regular and advanced system on day one, either there will be hardly any difference or there will be a huge price difference. Say one is $299 and the other is $599. A third system coming in later at $599 could be a fair bit stronger like ps4 pro but would it be worth the upgrade to someone that bought the first $599 system?

I'd say if the expensive launch xbox is roughly $399 then a mid gen refresh could work. Otherwise no.

I wonder if they would do that because of the One X.

Harder to show a next gen bump when you have some high end hardware to jump over.

Sell a low end model for $300, a high end model that gives the next gen bump people expect at $500.

Maybe.

A low end model launching at $300 next year would surely be lower power than the X?

Its a very strange situation that MS find themselves in. Sony are fine with the pro being older and cheaper, it won't be hard to make a cheap console for next gen which is clearly better than the pro.

In terms of raw numbers, the major rumor that is being reported on is
4 TFLOPS, vs the Xbox One X's 6 TFLOPS.

The newer architecture is better, so it actually has better performance in action.

Maybe a $400, and a $600 pro model.

4tf next gen system? That'd be crazy poor unless it was super cheap.

It would not beat xbox one x for lots of games.
