Yeah, this is gonna be one of the most interesting NPDs in ages, if Halo "underperforms" as much as people are suggesting and if the PS4 does actually take the month then, well lets just say the online discussions will be a sight to behold. Though if the opposite happens the heckling will be huge as well just from a different camp.

Dr. Pezus

Well 1.4-1.5m wouldn't be bad imo in the US for first week. It will probably be the worst selling mainline Halo since 1 but still very good sales. Europe+RoW looks to show a huge drop though.

It's beyond terrible (for Halo).

Microsoft starting the annual firesale is just embedding the idea into people's heads that you are throwing money and value away by buying the x1 at any other time of the year.

I expect decent sales again but shocking sales the first 9 months of next year.

Some people on VGC really don't like the possibility that Halo 5 sold considerably less than its predecessors....

An argument I tend to see is that Halo 5 is only tracked for 5 days and if tracked for a longer period of time, sales would be significantly higher. There are two problems with this argument:

1.) Halo 3 had over 1.7 million preorders prior to launch. Therefore, it sold 1.7 million plus non-preorder sales on Day 1. Regarding Halo 4, Microsoft's PR bragged about how Halo 4 surpassed Halo 3. It's not unreasonable to think it sold similar numbers on Day 1. Halo 5, on the other hand, sold 1.4 - 1.5 million physical copies in 5 days. Even when accounting for digital sales, the selling rate will still be lower.

2.) Going off of Abdiel's assessments, Halo 5 vanished when Black Ops 3 launched merely 10 days after Halo 5's. Battlefront, another multiplayer-focused FPS, is coming up soon on the 17th. I think Halo 5 will take a longer time establishing its legs compared to its predecessors.

I think the more troubling thing immediately looking forward for MS is Tomb Raider, sure we can argue all day how Halo 5s installbase is lower than previous Halos in the same timespan but the game still made a shitton of money for MS and while the sinking sales units are something that MS will have to keep an eye out for, it's also something that they'll have to get used to, I just recently went and checked the 360 bestsellers on the chertz and just had to think to myself that the X1s top 20 isn't going to look remotely as good... Anyway, back to TR, the game looks to be in a severely troubling position, it releases in 2 days and it barely manages to make the top 40 on Amazon? For a title of that size that's seriously bad, the game would have to have a metascore that blows all expectations out of the water for it to make any kind of impact at this point.

Not only that, Abdiel complained about the poor placement of the Tomb Raider bundle (it's only available in Best Buy and the MS store). Low preorders, limited availability of the bundle, and poor placement of the bundle, it's a recipe for disaster. This will have major repercussions on the series's growth and I bet Square Enix is regretting its decision.

You think after nearly ruining some of their jrpgs last gen by going 360 exclusive in Japan they'd have learned their lesson.  I've never seen a 3Rd party exclusive deal backfire so much for both parties involved.

TR would have sold a lot on ps4 this Xmas with uncharted 4 being delayed.

Anyway the Greatest xbox line up in history has flopped.  Forza,  halo and tomb raider all way under expectations.

All that after no exclusives for the first 9 months.

Btw. wasn't that Fable game supposed to be part of that lineup as well? Was that just quietly delayed out of the year or what?

I dunno.  I didn't even know it it had released or not.  It's on pc aswell and the pc crowd aren't hyped either.

Less than 2 days before release tomb raider is around #44. For square Enix sake let's hope Microsoft paid them a lot of money and are funding the ton of advertising I've been seeing for it.

Rorono

I'm surprised that amazon promo didn't do more for the gears bundle. You can effectively get it + 2 extra games for just 350 and not only did it not reach the COD ps4 it's also about to drop out of top 20 already

Nothing that compares to ROTR though..bomba. Seems most people using the promo aren't even picking it as either the free game nor using the voucher for it
