why did halo 4 sell well when CoD released just 6 days later?
why did farcry 4 sell well when CoD released 2 weeks earlier and GTA5 on the same day?
Why did battlefield 3 sell when CoD MW3 released 2 weeks later?
why did uncharted 3 sell so well when CoD and skyrim released a week later?

all are holiday games. It's different in spring. Nobody is buying games as gifts and the market is much slower in general

But Enix was expecting a holiday release for Uncharted, not spring.

Uncharted vs Tomb Raider during the holidays would have a small impact to TR total sales, true. Both are very established franchises and both are considered very good.


I think what matters is that Uncharted is exclusive, and is the bigger game of the two. Bundles, marketing, etc. will all favor Uncharted over TR on PS4. Naturally that leads to TR being partnered with Microsoft for marketing. Plus XBO only gamers who get interested in U4 are likely to settle with TR.

Tomb Raider would still sell great against U4 in the holidays, but its sales would have a larger skew over to XBO than if U4 wasn't releasing. Enix planned to capitalize on this and just go full holiday exclusive and get the bank from Microsoft. That significantly increases XBO sales and gives them a hefty check. Then a few months later they could release the PS4 version and only have a minor decrease in sales compared to the holiday PS4 release against U4.

Or something like that maybe.

There's no change in the Top 3 as Warner's 'Mortal Kombat X' (-64%) takes a 2nd week at No1, Rockstar/Take 2 are No2 with 'GTA V' (-50%) and EA's 'Battlefield Hardline' is No3 (-26%).

Sony's 'Minecraft Playstation Edition' jumps 5 places to No4 thanks to a 172% spike in sales over last week on the PS4 version (+52% over 3 version), followed by EA's 'FIFA 15' down 1 place to No5 (-40%). The only new release shows up as a re-entry at No18 on this Chart – Kalypso's 'Tropico 5' launches on PS4 this week, so joining the Xbox 360 & PC versions launched in 2014. All versions are developed by Haemimont Games in Sofia, Bulgaria and the PS4 version debuts at No7 on the PS4 chart.

given that PS4 should be up in Q4 FY 16 I'd say about 35.5m for end of 2015 (shipments)
