I wouldn't say a weekly dumpster fire, but there is some work to be done to fix them. I do remember making a long post saying MHW will do very well on PS4 with the user base size but got ganged up on.

Well yes, it is December. He's talking relatively, and then he realised that there's idiots out there so he had to add that ps4 is obviously still selling a lot.

Still thinking this all points to something like:

2M Switch
1.2M XB1
900k PS4

Kerotan

So let's say they announce PS5 at the end of 2019. Are they better off keeping a big permanent $100 ps4 slim/Pro price drop until say next November?

My guess is they have a permanent price cut in the summer.

Benji says Switch looking good for 2M+ in December, and XB1 was decently ahead of PS4 on super Saturday. Also Smash is "stratospheric".

Legend

Smash is smashing records. It's not just doing good, it's doing super good! We might have the ultimate seller on our hands, bros.

He basically said Switch is doing fantastic and evergreens are doing big numbers.

Crazy to think they could hold out so long for the permanent price cut.

Some great info from Spain this week:

Spain:
Week 50, 2018 - All Formats (Units)

01 (01) NSW Super Smash Bros Ultimate - 27,000 / 88,000
02 (04) PS4 FIFA 19 - 20,000 / 454,000
03 (02) NSW Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu!/Eevee! - 18,000 / 144,000
04 (03) PS4 Red Dead Redemption 2 - 17,300 / 281,000
05 (RE) PS4 Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 - 12,000 / 165,000

Best-selling titles released this year (until Week 50)

01 PS4 FIFA 19 - 454,000
02 PS4 Red Dead Redemption 2 - 281,000
03 PS4 Marvel's Spider-Man - 206,000
04 PS4 God of War - 189,000
05 PS4 Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 - 165,000

Retailers chit-chat:

- Last two weeks, Switch hardware is doubling PS4 numbers
- Excess stock: Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Fallout, Just Cause
- Making good sales these weeks: Smash, FIFA, Red Dead
- It misses stock for holidays: Super Mario Party
- Playstation Classic isn't working as expected

The Switch doubling PS4 is really key information. We knew Switch would melt PS4 in Japan and US in December but EU was the big question mark. If Switch is doubling PS4 in probably Sony's biggest market in terms of domination, that's pretty telling. Of course, PS4 will still be selling super well, its just Switch is a monster this month. Note that Sony have now announced a 100 Euro price cut for the next few weeks in Spain, so PS4 should catch up.

I grow more and more confident of the 20M target every day.

UK info: Smash overtook Splat 2 for Switch's 5th best seller, RDR2 was #1 this past week.

Red Dead Redemption 2 holds No.1 in the UK boxed charts for a second consecutive week, which means the Rockstar game is officially the Christmas No.1.

It's Rockstar's second Christmas No.1 after Grand Theft Auto Vice City in 2002.

Fifa 19 will still end the year as the UK's best-selling game. However, the gap between the two is close, and it's worth noting that FIFA 19 launched a month earlier.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate was one of the only games to dip in boxed sales in the Top 20 this week, which is to be expected for a recently released game (it only arrived three weeks ago).

Nintendo exclusives may have been the highest performers this week, but Spider-Man from Sony continues to perform incredibly well. The PS4 game sits at No.8 and is the fourth best-selling new game released this year. Spider-Man's sales rose 62 per cent week-on-week.

Another big exclusives is Forza Horizon 4, which rose 35 per cent this week but actually fell from No.8 to No.10. Both Microsoft and Sony's big Christmas game has sold more copies than either Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Battlefield V or Fallout 76.

UKIE/GfK Top Ten Christmas Chart:

  • RDR II
  • FIFA 19
  • Call of Duty: BO4
  • Battlefield V
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
  • Spyro Reignited Trilogy
  • Mario Kart Deluxe 8
  • Spider-Man
  • Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
  • Forza Horizon 4
