They don't need to be as aggressive in the UK. RDR2, Spiderman, GoW. PSVR. All pushing ps4. On top of that fortnite, bo4 etc. They don't need to go as low as last year. They will sell their stock regardless. Xbox on the other hand will sell badly if they go as high as sony. Otherwise they would and reap the extra profits.

The xbox brand has been devalued so much this gen all over Europe. The ps4 the oppositem

$199 1TB Spider-Man PS4 Slim Confirmed for Black Friday
I guess that counts as a BF thread... he didn't post in there though, so got ya!

Quote from: Xevross on Nov 22, 2018, 07:06 PMLol, maybe. We don't know how hardware has been moving in the UK this year, maybe they sold enough they feel they don't need to do Black Friday. Anyway, I guess Sony's fiscal report is making sense now, they're reducing promotions across the world except for in the US it would seem.

Wouldn't surprise me if PS4 is extremely down YOY here, and despite it being up YOY in America its still probably going to be 2M+ down YOY WW like their prediction states.
Lol, I've never been one to try and take advantage of price errors. Especially in person, I'm no good at that shame!
Yes, which is why I'm not sure why you seem to be making such a big deal out of this. Sony have raised their hardware forecast twice this year already and it still doesn't appear entirely unreasonable to expect them to beat their current forecast anyways. They are reaping profits now.

I'd agree with you if this was anywhere else in Europe, but Xbox is still very competitive here, so that doesn't apply as much. UK is more similar to US than the rest of Europe in terms of its games market. Well maybe Sony, like you suggested, will sell their stock regardless because they didn't ship too much here, and they think £30 off is all they need to do that. If that's the case, they don't seem to care about finishing this gen as UK market leader, which is kind of weird.

Well I'm not saying that this is the end of days and PS4 is doomed or anything, I'm just shocked that the PS4 deals are so bad, and I think it will lead to a huge XB1 lead in the UK this holiday. If Sony don't care about that, then fine.

On a slightly related topic, I wonder what's a better end of generation business plan: continuing aggressive pricing and making sure you increase your market share as much as possible before entering the new gen, or just slowing down and enjoying more profits at the end of the gen while maybe sacrificing next gen sales to your opponent.

Early in the gen its important to cut prices and get more HW sales, because people will stick around and buy lots of games and generate lots of revenue, but I guess that's less of an effect later in the gen, and you'll want to make more money from HW itself. But then your opponent might get ahead and pull people into their ecosystem for next gen! Madness.

Just realised that cheapest Switch is only £30 more than cheapest PS4 this year, that's nuts! Switch is going to be so hot this holiday, 20M is gonna be hit!

And someone posted on Era the comparison to last year's PS4 deals:

2017:
PS4 slim + Fifa 18 + GT Sport: £199 (-£50)
PS4 pro + Fifa 18 + COD WWII: £299 (-£50)

2018:
PS4 slim + Fifa 18 or Red dead 2: £219 (-£30)
PS4 pro + Fifa 18 or red dead 2: £329 (-£20)

Yeesh. One game less for £20 more. Only people buying PS4 this BF are people who have suddenly become interested in it this year.

Ps4 is valued higher this Xmas for a ton of reasons including gow, fortnite, rdr2, bo4 and spiderman.

Well this is true, there's more reasons to get PS4 this year. I'm very, very interested to see how PS4 and XB1 sales compare with this discrepancy in price. We used to get BF week HW sales in the UK but I doubt we'll get it this year. Sad.

Edit: so actually we knew 2016 numbers (PS4 142k and XB1 92k), then Sony said last year they sold even more, so 143k+. That was despite deals being worse... hmm.... I hope we get told some info again this year, if sales go up again despite deals being even worse then wowee.

I was just looking back to find some amazon charts data and I noticed how much this thread had died down, its kinda sad. In terms of time, page 155 is the mid-point. So in our first two years here we had 155 pages, and we've only had 50 in the last two. I think a lot of that is down to not tracking amazon any more, which can't be helped because amazon has become much more irrelevant, but also general activity is also down. I think it doesn't help that we've become less enthusiastic about sales now, they mattered more earlier in the gen and we all used to get quite excited about NPD coming up and things like that. I remember the excitement around BF and tracking how well each console was doing... ah the good old days.

I need to keep on it and post the weekly charts every week, and maybe we can use this thread to do predictions and stuff. At least we can get some activity back :P

You're a what!? How do you cope having to press new page so often?

Astrobot bundle is back in stock on Amazon, but the word hasn't gotten around yet.
Because the worse bundle (that is currently out of stock) is doing way better on their chartz.

I really hope PSVR does well, the deals are so good this is its shot at the big time, it ain't getting better than this.

Benji also confirmed that PS4 will be 2M+ if Sony have the stock. I guess that's the big question. Let's see how much there is tomorrow.

fudge it! I'm tracking amazon uk! Deals are live and PS4 is doing way better than I expected. Guess I should have learned after all this time to never underestimate PS4. After there being only Switch in the daily chart a few hours ago, this is what it looks like now:

#1 Switch Neon                                    (0)      (£249.99 - £30 off)
#18 Switch Grey                                   (+4)     (£249.99 - £30 off)
#28 PS4 500GB RDR2                           (new) (£219.99 - £30 off)
#50 PS4 Pro RDR2                                (new) (£329.99 - £20 off)

#96 PS4 500GB Black Ops 4                  (new) (£319.99 - £30 off)

Note the price keeps changing for PS4 RDR2, not sure what's happening there. So it may drop.

The Astrobot bundle went from like 280 to 100, after getting back in stock.
And it's out of stock again.

Pretty awesome, that it seems like right now, that PSVR is selling what they have.
