Pretty cool how they do this. Insane!

Did he just get lucky and as it turned out there was a much smaller number of moves needed? Seems like a pointless record to me

Is there a minimum number of moves required? What are the requirements for a mixed up rubix cube?

I kind of think so, too.
What if one person gets a cube solveable in 10 turns and someone else requires 20?

To get the WR I think you are going to need to have the lowest amount of moves possible that is allowed to be counted as a record. You need luck along with raw ability. I wouldn't be surprised if previous WR was a similar amount of moves.

He got lucky but that luck only mattered because he's really fast and knows what he's doing. Anyone else given this starting configuration would have probably solved it slower. I'd say it's fairly comparable to how speedruns in video games need lucky rng but they take plenty of skill too.

Doesn't really work like that. Humans aren't machines and they never solve rubik's cubes with the minimum amount of moves. I lost count but this WR was at least 33 moves.

It's more that they luck into situations where chunks of algorithms aren't needed because the pieces ended up in the correct place from previous algorithms.

Well I know that.

Of course it takes skill, but with randomized things like this, there's a bit of luck at least.  Especially I think when you start getting into tens of milliseconds.

I'm not saying solving a Rubik's cube doesn't take skill. :P

I never said you didn't  :P

I still find it funny how some people get so into this type of stuff.  But, ya'll keep doing what you love I guess!

Speed cubing is lame.

Solving exotic puzzles is where the fun's at.  8)

(I own 36 twisty puzzles and have another ~15 that I designed myself)
