To me that means it has to be good enough by today's standards. If the control scheme is ancient and bad, or the graphics are awful etc. then it drops out.
And I disagree with that.  There are plenty of older games that stand up today.

Certainly more than Super Mario 64.

The first time I played Super Mario 64 was only like ~7 years ago and I thought it was great. One of my favorite games of all time. Definitely holds up.

I think you just don't like SM64  ::)

So Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy IX and Chrono Trigger don't hold up today? Ok, Edge...

Well they said only one numbered entry per series and a different FF is in there

I think that's a little silly though.
Each Final Fantasy game is different, usually in a different universe.

Yet they can have 5 Zelda games.  4 Mario games.

The other final fantasy games must not have ranked all that well though.  Couldn't even have broken the top 100, which seems crazy.

1. The FF they put in there really doesn't deserve to be the one representing the series.
2. That rule is retarded, especially since it still allows them to for instance put 5 fudgy Zelda games in this top 100, since technically they aren't numbered entries. Either make the list a real 1 game per franchise list or actually leave it completely open, don't make rules that leave loopholes for you to still put several entries in the same franchise in, while excluding others. How is it justifiable that a list is allowed to include OoT and Majora's Mask but not FFXII and FFVI? The latter two are way more different from each other than the former two.

Yeah I'm not a fan of that rule at all. The FF games are as similar as the Zelda games, maybe even less so.

It's a very strange top 100 but looking at it given the criteria they've said I don't think it's too crazy. The majority of people will always disagree with a lot of things in other people's top 100s
