KatharsisT says Bluepoint will basically become a MGS factory for the next few years pumping out remakes of all the games.

I'm not happy with that.
If that affords them the time to get an original project right, then I'm fine with it. I think that's what their longterm goal is going to be, but since they never made one before I'd expect that to take quite some time anyways.

I think part of this whole rumour is that the MGS Remake is actually already pretty far along, so if that is true, then Bluepoint has to be able to at least partially work on two projects simultaneously. So one Team is making MGS and another part of the studio is working on an original project. That's my headcanon at least. ::)

Hopefully they can work on two things at the same time.
Yeah hopefully this is the case and I believe it would be. No way they'd basically just make Bluepoint spend an entire generation on remaking one franchise, it only makes sense if its half of Bluepoint doing this and the other half mixing it up with other stuff.

This makes a lot of sense to me.

i mean, probably. DS shipped a few months ago already and likely it was "done" well before it shipped due to being a ps5 exclusive so the release waited for the hardware to release.

that seems like a waste of good talent.
Remake 1 or 2? Great!

Remake them all? Yeah few people will care by the third. Mgs is huge but no franchise needs that.

remake them all would be good if spaced out but if they do them back to back to back in 2022, 2023, 2024 then yeah i agree with you. a far better use of their talent is to remake the entire ratchet and clank franchise because that's what i want...

but i basically agree with @DerNebel in that making a new IP is a big investment that will probably take them 6 years to complete anything. pumping out a few remakes on the side is a good way keep the studio profitable and valuable while working out the kinks of jumping into new IP development.

Era peeps saying this means R&C should be 3-4 months away, which is the completely expected time-frame.

I was expecting a bit sooner.

7 months doesn't feel like launch window anymore.

I was also expecting it sooner, but things changed. Returnal at the end of April, RE8 in early May and Deathloop in late May means its either March or June for R&C. March is too close now so June is the current realistic expectation. I would have guessed April before Returnal delay.

my opinion is,...

....once sony so just how huge ps5 demand is relative to stock they decided to push back the true exclusives because they can. no need to release exclusives to uptick demand when demand is already higher than they can handle. all of the exclusives got pushed back either officially or just relative to expectations (ratchet and clank in release window).

sucks those that got a ps5 early but it makes business sense.

i think this points to either GoW or Horizion being pushed to 2022 at this point. If ratchet is early summer than Horizon will probably be early fall and GoW moves to march 2022. i can't see sony putting both of these massive games games in the same quarter.

...Or it's just Covid delaying things, exactly like people said it would for months and months.

...or the real reason is sony see's the opportunity to delay while using covid as a scapegoat.

That makes no sense. When Returnal was delayed they didn't even mention Covid and for any game that hasn't had a concrete date announced you don't need to find a "scapegoat", just look at the R&C announcement. For the entire PS4 generation Sony merrily delayed game after game by simply stating that they needed more time to polish, but now they need to find a scapegoat in Covid? Nah.

The virus is impacting game development, we've known this for months, no reason to believe there's some deeper strategical reason behind all this.

Cory has mentioned that there would have been more things had the budget demanded it.

Spoiler for Hidden:
Like he wanted more chaos during the big middle scene of the game. Where we would see more enemies fighting along the sidelines.
I understand time constraints, but it almost feels weird to think about a major AAA studio having to cut all kinds of things.

I know this happens constantly. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if there were nearly 0 games that turned out exactly how they were planned.

But still it's weird to think about.
