Wow that's crazy. I had no idea people give up meat like that. I've only ever heard of people giving one thing up, like chocolate or drinking or buying clothes etc.

Not sure about "giving up" - I think thats more of a catholic tradition.

when i was a kid we did that no meat on good friday..  this year there was a point on friday that i was just eating lunch meat by itself as a snack.

now im about to eat a big dog roast.  mmmmm

I heard about eating no meat on good friday from 2 of my friends I saw on friday that said they didn't eat any meat. They're the only 2 out of my ~20 main friends that I would say are fairly religious. Even then, they only go to Church for special occasions, such as today.

HAm, mash potatoes, scallop cheese potatoes, salads, rolls, jello, etc. are standard for my extended family. Every holiday gets a selection of them.
