There's a lot of new reviewers, this gen.  

Neither of the Super Mario Galaxy games, Uncharted 3, and most last gen games hit 100.  
Or anywhere close.  
Most games got to the 70-90 mark and that's where they stayed.  
The fact that Uncharted 2 hit 105 reviewers was a big deal, very very few games ever hit that.  Galaxy 2 didn't even hit 90.  

But there are a lot more reviewers, that's just how it goes.  One of the Zelda games only had like 19 reviewers.  

This gen 80-100 generally seems to be where the biggest games get reviewed.  

There might be more than 10 games with over 100 reviews, but not very many.  

Not many yet at least, Sony games seem to get a ton of reviews on metacritic nowadays, even games like Until Dawn and R&C got over 100 reviews on meta. I don't think any retail release from Sony for the rest of the gen will get less than 90 reviews and things like God of War, Spiderman, Death Stranding, TLOU2 etc. are almost certainly all going above 100 unless a bunch of outlets close shop.

While this is all true I don't particularly find it surprising. Its rare but there's nothing too surprising about it
