why does infamous second son have the specific super powers it has?  do you think the insomniac came up with an idea that felt cool and then found a way to make the gameplay work?  or do you think they found some good gameplay and then found a way to dress it up to make it feel cool.

i think that is part of the problem with superhero games is the IP is soo established you have to force the gameplay to fit the universe instead of creating a universe to fit the gameplay.  it's why i'm a bit scared of the spiderman game,.. no previous game has been able to recreate the feeling of fighting like spiderman because he is soo scrappy in his fighting style.  i saw that scrappy style in the trailer but i also so animations that were a bit stiff/delayed in places.  i'm worried that game is going to feel like a series of quicktime events.

and added suck about previous movie games is they also tried to adapt the story into gameplay to match the movie.  at least here we have super hero games being created without a movie so the developers will have more leeway to decided what kind of set pieces and story work within their game.  that should make these set of games better than previous ones.

@bold - the batman games were what i'd consider high budget.
Woops, I completely forgot about batman.
Certain aspects of superhero games have generally really sucked.  Like flying, but that doesn't mean they can't figure out a way to make those things work.

well i'll try to keep an open mind but i just generally don't like captain america, thor, or the hulk so i'm going to be hard to please.

i'd be much happier if this was just an ironman game.

This is a huge get for Square Enix, now with Marvel in their portfolio and if they actually make them good they can compete with EA, Ubisoft and Activision. Heck a killer Avenegers game would fly off shelves. You have to wonder just wtf Activision were thinking half assing their Marvel games.

Ultimate Alliance was "good", they just didn't know what to do with Spider-man really.  Though it looks like they gave up on cheap cashins in general. Probably plan to live off Overwatch, Destiny and WoW

A top quality Marvel game can be a massive seller though, even bigger than Batman.

i completely agree with you. the only avenger that has powers that would lend them selfs to decent gameplay is iron man, and thats basically because it would turn into a shooter or a gameplay similar to infamous. Hulk? cant see any interesting gameplay coming out of him. same for captain america.

i just hope that crystal dynamic's new IP isnt effected by this deal. i have a fear they might reskin what ever they are working on and slap a marvel super hero over it. overall i am happy square enix took this deal. as i dont really care for this games. i was worried we would have another major publisher (one that i care about) basically going the EA starwars route, where all their fudgy studios are working on fudgy starwars games, and wasting so much talent on that fudgy IP. ( i really hope biowares "new IP" isnt a starwars game either)

You really can't see any game play potential with hulk? How about GoW style hack and slash with more enemies?

but hulk doesnt use a sword or any kind of weapon. i personally cant see anything interesting coming out of him. his coolest moments in the movies dont really lend them selfs well to video games.

true to character hulk gameplay would basically be a "fist" version of dynasty warriors...

...and no i don't see any potential in that gameplay.

He's a giant green mutation who can pick up light poles and use as a weapon

Because he can't pound the ground, use cars as weapons, grapple baddies

I played a Hulk game on PS2, it wasn't great, but I remember having some fun with it.  There are a handful of Marvel games already, I suppose...

Hulk - would be largely melee, indestructible, (the map would have to be fully destructible and allow things to be picked up). GoW-type gameplay seems possible, would just have to be with fists or something that's been picked up.

Captain America: ability to throw and use shield, melee.  Kinda like original infamous gameplay, with some alterations, and reductions.  Largely no lighting, but replace lightning bolts with throwing the shield or maybe guns.  Maybe make him faster on foot.

Iron Man- a lot of shooting gameplay, some well managed flying gameplay.

Thor - some combination of the flying, melee, but also lightning powers, and a few others.

Wrap it up in a awesome package with good graphics, a solid and smart storyline; etc it sounds like a solid game to me.
