So is blender though lol
I think blender is much better. At least right now. Plus I can't find any good beginners tutorials. Everyone expects you to have some knowledge. Even when clicking on videos with 101 or basics in the title.

After hours of frustration I have this really shaming bow. I'll scrap it and start again...

That's not bad at all.

Just clean it up and it'd be good.

Well I really screwed up where the string attached. Had to walk away from it for awhile. I went back to sketching. I'll have something to post here in a little while.

Would it be a game mechanic or a narrative element?

Dat double quote.  :P

Both, I think of him as you're watcher while you're young. And as you grow older you can tame him and have him hunt small prey and fish for you. Maybe even help out in attacks you might not survive or run away from if something wasn't there to get in the way.

I'm thinking running into other humans will be rare. You main dangers will be animals in the wild.

You could also have the owl send messages/go on quests!

Could scout out areas in advance as the owl. You know, kinda like watchdogs with the cameras. Set up a strategy and then go for the kill.

Are you going for a realistic game, or a gamey game?

Gamey, I don't want to do realistic, one I'll be lucky to make it at all, and realistic is getting boring. So much of the same. It's like people are afraid to do something different.  But it will be hard. Take killing a deer for as an example.  You won't have a cross hair to tell you where the arrow will go, you'll just have to know how it Flys and where it will land from experience. Plus getting ylto close will make it run off before you can even line up your shot.

Do you have ue4 on you pc? IF so can you load it and let me know if it looks low res to you? RE4 is the only thing I seem to have problems looking low res. It's make it a pain for text.
