I think the important part is how long it's going to take them to build on this foundation. They can't have every update take as long as this, at least not before people are actually somewhat satisfied with the game.

First off they need to apologize/acknowledge that the game was missing things at release and is now more of an early access type thing. Explain why features didn't work out and just be more open in general. Start investing in actual PR and respond to community suggestions on forums.

It's ok to go 4 months without talking about new features but it's not ok to go 4 months without talking at all.

Gamers are a forgetful bunch, if Hello Games gets a good stream of free updates with good content going then they won't have to explicitely apologize for anything. The reaction to this update has apparently already warranted the creation of this meme:

So now we finally get moon and planets devoid of life and constructs?  Weren't we suppose to have that at launch. lol

The new automated resource gathering will be great and reduce my biggest frustration with the game.

Ok that base building looks nice!  I could definitely notice a sharper image quality to everything when I jumped in for a few earlier.

We shall see how much more it gets me playing.

Yeah I've been reading that subreddit (I never stopped, shhhh). Seems like it's mostly fans coming out of the woodwork vs dislikers changing their opinion.

Without apologizing imo they'll have a heck of a lot of more work to do.

They might, but really the apology should have come months ago.

Should have come pre release but that would have decreased sales.

Anyway this update has convinced me to reinstall Space Engineers.

Does survival mode still start you with your broken ship? I just read your gaf post about having to restart 5 times.

What is the reason you keep restarting?

Sorry for the late reply. Yes, you start with your original broken ship. There are now three separate modes and each has a separate save. You can just continue with your old save or pick one of the other two. You can also delete saves at will now, which is why I deleted it 5 times on Survival mode. It's frigin' HARD and I'm not in the least bit exaggerating. Resources are so scarce you really have to be careful how you progress so I was looking for something 'a little easier' each time I restarted. No such luck.

Seems the bases have to be pretty small/low part count so on PC here's how you disable that: Removing the base building limit in the simplest possible instructions : NoMansSkyTheGame

Also I remembered why I didn't really play Space Engineers. That game is super complex and not for casual players. I really like NMS's node building approach.

Bases and freighters were obviously in development before the game's release so I wonder where they go for the next update. Add more tangential gameplay or revisit what's already there?

Falling speed seems pretty constant.  :P

How did he get up there?  :o

Base building seems pretty cool.

Webm support for the win, btw.

Maybe the planet has a thick atmosphere and he reached terminal velocity  :P

He probably climbed a ladder in the center. This is on PC with the part count limit removed.

Base building seems ok but with good potential. I really love the simplicity of their node system yet it limits the amount of creativity possible. More building blocks are needed but it's a great start.

Yeah I just fixed up webm embedding so that it feels the same as youtube embedding.

Maybe, but also maybe not!  How good of a job does the game do at terminal velocity + maybe different strengths of gravity?  :o

Is there any elevator capabilities?  :o

Yeah!  :D
