Quote from: the-Pi-guy on Oct 13, 2016, 03:24 AMYou're saying Huma sent 2 emails congratulating her for the peaceful protests?

WikiLeaks - Hillary Clinton Email Archive

Considering that email was sent almost right after Benghazi, you don't think she was referring to that?

After all, putting peaceful in quotation marks is not necessary... or perhaps those protests aren't peaceful at all...

Considering the email being forwarded only barely mentions Benghazi, I highly doubt she'd be referring to Benghazi.  Particularly when there are actual protests mentioned across the rest of the email.
Perhaps she had some other reason for putting peaceful in quotes.

Obama won't do shame because Obama never has. He failed to make good on his "line in the sand" stance on Assad. He failed to act on China's moves in the Pacific. His response to Russia's actions have always been slow and timid. He's more concerned about being the most liked man in the international room. He's just towing the party line right now. He wants a legacy as a man who secured "peace" even if it ultimately meant a tougher position for the US and the West down the road. He's worked too long and hard on his image to throw it away now and he definitely doesn't have the stomach or spine to truly threaten someone he can't simply drone strike all day. He's just showing some party solidarity at the tail end of his career to help boost Clinton.

This thing with Russia has been boiling up for years now and Russia has most definitely been at fault in many ways. Violating nuclear weapon treaties. Bombing very near US positions in Syria. Violating national and international waters and air space around various European nations many times since early 2014. Russia is actually being accused of war crimes in Syria and it's not just the US making this claim. This is on top of sanctions already placed on it because of its actions in Ukraine. Russia has moved nuclear capable weapons to the borders of Poland and Lithuania. The hacks are just a part in a series of events that have been building to a confrontation with them. The accusations aren't baseless. You can hand wave them if you wish as nothing more than the US government looking for excuses, but they honestly don't need any more. Between treaty violations, aggressive behavior, and possible war crimes... hacking us is just a side note. It would be in their benefit, though, if Clinton lost the election because they know she won't fudge around with them. Trump has made it clear that he's an idiot when it comes to the world of foreign politics. Pro-tip: When looking to become President of the United States, you don't insult an entire continent that happens to be your most powerful ally and the other head of the West just because you want to incite what is, intellectually, the lowest common denominator of the party you're running under.

Russia as it currently exists is basically the last bastion of Europe for those who refuse to be a part of the West. They've been a thorn in our side (US, EU, and our allies) for a long time now and have become a regional headache. A post I read on another site put it like this. Russia is basically a nuclear armed gas station with delusions of grandeur. I'm not concerned about a war with Russia. As far as I'm concerned at this point, if a war with them ends up happening and ends their relevance or opposition to the West sooner, then fine. I don't like the consequences of war but I'm also not so naive as to believe that war can be completely avoided or that it should only happen when someone else has struck you. A war with Russia would not be World War 3. It would take a lot more than just us squaring off against them to make that happen. Russia's actual strength outside of its nuclear arsenal is highly exaggerated.

You also don't just sit there and do nothing about an opponent just because they might launch nukes. That's the whole point of a missile defense system in Europe to begin with. It is the reason we've been on fire to do something about Russia since we found out they violated the INF Treaty. A treaty specifically designed to protect Europe. Because the last thing we want is Russia trying to hold a nuclear gun to Europe's head while they do as they please elsewhere.

There is a time for negotiation and a time for you to make it clear to an opposition that you're not fudgy around. Many times, making it clear that you're not above beating the shame out of them is what brings them to the negotiating table to begin with. They need to understand the severity of the situation. Sitting around a camp fire, holding hands, and singing kumbaya doesn't work on people like Putin or Jinping.

Wow, fella, that's such an impressive post, and one of the reasons I stepped out. I'm more into social engineering and information manipulation than anything else and fall woefully short of knowledge like this. It's been 25 years since I was really interested in politics and even then it was clearly not as deep as your understanding of its machinations. I'm just fascinated by the way people glean information from one source and ignore information from another, even when some of the people offering that information are as deeply into the detail as yourself.

To put it bluntly, I'm simply not educated enough to offer a fair rebuttal ... but I am honest. :)

I didn't mean to make you feel that way. I was aiming for honest discussion. Maybe I overdid it.  :'(

If you ever do feel up to it, I'd be happy to hash it out. I may get excitable but I do try to stick to the facts, keep my attitude in check, and I don't rely on singular sources. Like you, I think doing so is foolish.

I'll respect your wishes though and not drag you into this.  :P

Frankly the US's military strength is usually underestimated itself.
In terms of budget, reach, power; unmatched in any of those categories is an understatement.
Our military budget is close to 10x what Russia spends.

DD_Bwest

there has been like 3 sexual assault stories to come out,  2 on the NYT and 1 in people magazine

with some of these journalists say there are atleast 2 bombs coming that are larger then the tape last week and these stories.

emails are boring to a public obsessed with celebrities and naughtiness scandals.  at this rate, Chris Hansen should be the next moderator.

You can practically smell the urine in their collective pants over the idea of Clinton becoming President.
