There's obviously a reason behind them having so many bundles but I just don't get it.

The only reason I can think of is if they flood the channels and then bring out a new bundle, retailers will get rid of the old stock with their own deals (MS don't have to foot the bill for these deals). This will increase sales and MS won't lose money by having official deals. But I can't see retailers falling for it every year so there must be something in it for them to put up with it.
