Eurogamer: NX = portable w/ carts, detachable controllers, Tegra, TV Out, no BC, Sept - NeoGAF

QuoteNo individual console and handheld device. You get both in one here. Official unveiling in September apparently.
QuoteNintendo's upcoming NX will be a portable, handheld console with detachable controllers, a number of sources have confirmed to Eurogamer. On the move, NX will function as a high-powered handheld console with its own display. So far so normal - but here's the twist: we've heard the screen is bookended by two controller sections on either side, which can be attached or detached as required. Then, when you get home, the system can connect to your TV for gaming on the big screen.A base unit, or dock station, is used to connect the brain of the NX - within the controller - to display on your TV.

QuoteNX will use game cartridges as its choice of physical media, multiple sources have also told us. Considering NX's basis as a handheld first and foremost, the choice may not come as too much of a surprise - although we have heard the suggestion Nintendo recommends a 32GB cartridge

QuoteInside the NX, as stated above, the system will harness Nvidia's powerful mobile processor Tegra. Graphical comparisons with current consoles are difficult due to the vastly different nature of the device - but once again we've heard Nintendo is not chasing graphical parity. Quite the opposite, it is sacrificing power to ensure it can squeeze all of this technology into a handheld, something which also tallies with earlier reports.

Power somewhere between a Wii-U and XB1 (but portable).

sounds horrible.

BC was the only thing that could have maybe got me on board because i didn't own a wiiU.  but i suppose remasters are just as good for my purposes.  still,.. the idea that a system is mobile but also that the controllers are detachable.  i'm not sure who's getting the bigger shaft but either this thing isn't all that mobile or this thing has the worlds worst controller for a console.  it just can't be both.

i'm happy.  xD

Yeah the idea of having a mobile unit that plugs in at home isn't too bad. Home base could even have additional cooling and allow the games to have better graphics on the big screen and really feel like a console.

Controller's are what make this seem like a bad idea to me. Maybe what they mean is that at home it has a big nice controller setup around the screen, while on the go you only have touch controls?

Maybe the handheld itself has no buttons and you can add them at the side?

And less powerful than XBO? That's going to cause them so many problems. You can't enter a generation 3 years late and still have the worst graphics, especially when you're releasing near a mid generation refresh. What games have been confirmed for this thing?

"Zelda
Lets Dance
Rise:Race the Future
Project Sonic
DQ XI"

Should have been obvious. This thing isn't going to get any third party support.

I feel like Nintendo is that daredevil who knows he shouldn't try to jump the Grand Canyon on a motorized scooter but he hits the accelerator full throttle because "what if I make it, though?"

I really wonder though, if Nintendo did make a similarly powerful console, how much support they'd get and how well they'd sell.

Ludicrous Speed

I just can't believe something so stupid. I'll have to see it to believe it. That mockup of the design on GAF is the dumbest thing I have ever seen.

It depends on a lot more than just power, but I think a low powered system is a harder sell.
