Microsoft too many games for Crackdown 3

QuoteXbox marketing manager Aaron Greenberg has shed more light on the subject. Appearing on the TXR Podcast today, Greenberg said Microsoft has so many other great games coming this year (not to mention third-party games) that he's happy to see the game land in 2017 rather than be "crammed" into 2016.

"We don't need the game this year," he said. "We've got ReCore, we've got Forza Horizon 3, we've got Gears of War 4, we've got Dead Rising 4--just on the stuff we're publishing before you get to all the great third-party titles. We have a great partnership with EA around Madden, around Battlefield."

Overall, Greenberg said Microsoft is now being "more thoughtful" about spacing out releases.

"We've been more thoughtful about spreading out our titles over the next year; not cramming them all into [the holiday season]," he said. "Giving people time to play games; to have time and money to be able to go buy the next game. When we look at that [holiday 2016] window of time, we sure didn't need another big AAA game, and so we'd rather give the team time and bring that out sometime next year."

Microsoft can't hold all these games as is.  :o

Wasn't this game announced back in 2014, though? ???

Pssst, don't remind them, this is all just because they are drowning in all these games. Clearly something like Recore takes precedent over the game that's supposed to finally prove once and for all how great the Cloud is.

Showing Crackdown 3 and giving us some solid information on it has NOTHING to do with its release date being soon or not and, as pointed out, the multiplayer component was supposed to be playable this Summer. As usual, Microsoft's PR completely misses the point. This game was announced over two years ago and all we have is a cinematic trailer and proof of concept demonstrations. Not actual gameplay. You contracted a tiny studio that has no projects under its belt to do the bulk of the work for a game like Crackdown, supposedly had to bring in Sumo Digital to assist with development, while a third studio focuses on cloud tech that is relatively pointless since the benefits are reserved for multiplayer, assuming you can actually pull it off, and is really used for nothing more than environmental destruction.

Which is something many games have done without the need for cloud computing. A few in a multiplayer environment. What you're aiming for is not even anything that enhances gameplay. It is simply a bragging right to do something in a game that isn't using clever corner cuts and work arounds to avoid requiring too much processing to pull off. Having thousands of pieces of a collapsed building laying there the whole time and being at least minimally affected by the physics of the players is impressive tech, but it doesn't enhance gameplay and no one will care when they're running around shooting and getting shot at. Furthermore, the Scorpio and even a decent modern PC rig likely won't need cloud computing to pull off such a feat.

I would also like to further point out that the very existence of the Scorpio proves the BS of Microsoft's PR machine. As it was they who put the idea in the heads of some consumers that cloud computing would mean the Xbox One would become more powerful over time, incredibly so, and heavily reduce the need to purchase a new console in the future. In addition, the fact that Crackdown 3 is the only working example Microsoft has of a game that is using cloud computing in the way they preached means that by the time the game releases it will be the ONLY game using cloud computing in the way Microsoft bragged about.... FOUR YEARS EARLIER. That means that there are people out there who bought the Xbox One on an idea Microsoft put into their head that would take them nearly an entire console generation (based on average length) to achieve with one measly game.

Yep.
But its a tough job to hold onto so many games.
You end up dropping some and give up and convince yourself you don't need it.
