Quote from: Legend on Jul 14, 2016, 04:14 AMPokemon Go is going to be remembered as the biggest game of 2016. This is huge and still only getting bigger.

It has created a new genre and ushered in a new era of video games. Walking around in the real world and catching pokemon is pretty cool, but doing it with other people is a killer app. "Social AR" I'd call it, and it's so much more valuable than I ever imagined.
They executed it incredibly well.
Tapping into a gigantic user base, with a gigantic franchise that is incredibly appealing.

Let's give this whole thing a month  on the market first.

No, he's definitely right.  Even if it dies this instant, it's still freaking humongous.
My facebook is covered in Pokemon Go by friends, and family who are basically such rare gamers they've likely never touched a game in their life.

I've never ever ever ever ever seen a game just dominate social media so much.  Not Minecraft, not CoD, not anything.
And it's not just social media popular.  It is actually legitimately huge.
Pokemon Go now the biggest mobile game in US history
It looks huge, and it has the hugeness to actually back it up.

I meant in regards to the second part of the comment, about it ushering a new era of gaming.

In pure number of players it will absolutely be the biggest game of the year.

Its out in the UK! Time to check it out (I'm not going to leave my house ;D )

Well I'm not sure what I expected but the only pokestop within about a 20 minute walk of my house is in the middle of the hospital. So is the nearest gym.

I have a pokestop just outside my apartment, which means I never need to leave the house for a refill!

Yeah Pokemon is just a reskinned Ingress with less features.

AR games like that are nothing new I know.

Pokemon is cool only because it's so popular. In game you can place a lure, and in real life you can see dozens of people show up. It's not just you pretending to be a pokemon trainer, it's the world pretending we're all pokemon trainers. Basically a real life MMO.

Without that it's just standard mobile trash (I still have zero desire to download it lol).

pokemon is only popular because it is pokemon.

this game could have just as easily been skinned with disney characters and been even more popular.
