So if that's an issue, you should wait.  Otherwise there are ways around that.

Oculus Rift Setup | Oculus

Download that, and install the app.

Store, Library, friends list, etc. can be found in app.
I need to update my drivers, but Nvidia can't connect.  ::)

Bottom Line

The Rift's graphics, sound and head tracking, which is the device's ability to follow where the viewer looks, do feel like something out of science fiction. While the system's setup is somewhat complex, the smoothness of the graphics and the high-quality design of the headgear make virtual reality feel ready for prime time.

And yet there may be a higher reward for those who wait to buy the Rift.

For one, Oculus has delayed the release of its motion-based controllers, called Touch, until later this year. In my experience, the motion controllers felt much more natural to use in virtual reality applications than a game controller.

It would also be wise to see what games become available when PlayStation VR, Sony's virtual reality headset that connects to a PlayStation, arrives in October. Analysts say PlayStation VR has an edge partly because of its lower cost — about $800 when combined with accessories and a PlayStation 4, or nearly half the price of a full Rift system.

When it comes down to it, I don't disagree with Mr. Zuckerberg that this is just the beginning of virtual reality. With about 30 games and a few apps available at Rift's introduction, there isn't much to do with the system yet. Oculus will eventually need a larger, more diverse set of content to transcend its initial audience of gamer geeks.

I, for one, will be waiting.

Your original post made the writer sound like such a prick. Thanks for the edit!

Definitely needs more AAA games vs "demo" games. If you don't like Elite, you'll run out of content super quick.

According to MC that is the only negative review at least: Oculus Rift Hardware Reviews - Metacritic

This is the display apparently.

I think the Wallstreet journal is smoking crack.

It will take some time for VR storytellers to figure out this craft. But the Rift itself, while an engineering marvel, still just isn't that good at convincing you you're in an alternate reality. After the novelty wears off, using the 1.5-pound headset is about as awkward as sleeping on an airplane. ... The extra costs of the Rift (monetary and otherwise) would be justified if its image quality were dramatically better than [the $100 Samsung Gear VR], but it isn't.

Image quality lol?

QuoteAnother big-picture VR problem: It's boring to be around people who are using it. Remember when you got a Nintendo Wii and invited people over for doubles tennis? Nathan came over to my house to play with the Rift, and we ignored each other for hours while he pawed at the air in silence. You can play Rift games with friends over the Internet but, despite being developed by Facebook, it offers few other ways to connect with people.

Lol no:

QuoteWhen I'm on the inside, I also can't shake a feeling of paranoia. There's no way to tell what people around you are saying and doing.
I never understand these complaints.  How do you people sleep?

QuoteEveryone talks about VR's sensory overload, but the most troubling part for me was the sensory deprivation. It's a blindfold. You need to clear an area to move around, yet the Rift doesn't do a very good job of telling you when you're nearing the edges. Unless we start building adult playpens, teeth will be lost on the sides of coffee tables. Oculus warns users during setup to "allow adequate space all around and above you" and that "loss of balance may occur."

Oculus isn't pushing room scale yet.

QuoteBut since you can't just look down and see the controller's 16 buttons, you need a gamer's muscle memory.
Awww shucks.  I need to be able to look down to find all those buttons.

QuoteWhen there's so much filling your periphery, it isn't always clear what to look at, and apps are inconsistent on this. Most just make sure the action is concentrated in "front"—toward the sensor tracking your position. There isn't even much purpose to 360-degree immersion in titles like "Lucky's Tale." Many games would have been nearly as fun on a big TV with surround sound.
Sure, I'd push 360 degrees whenever possible.

They talk about interesting stuff.  Zuck feels out of his element.
Its very different from what I've seen with Bill Gates for example.

Loved how he was denied access into the room.

QuoteI've been furiously checking my e-mail waiting for my shipment confirmation. While doing that, I decided to roam around Oculus Home. A little while later, I got an e-mail from Oculus Store! I was so happy! I read the e-mail twice! It said that my order has been processed and my card has been charged!
For $15.00. For a game I had bought on Oculus Home just seconds before.
I am not a smart man.

Reddit technology forum has been going crazy thinking Facebook is using or as an evil trojen horse.

Other day they freaked out about the software tracking everything and sending it to Facebook. Today they are freaking out about the TOS stating Facebook owns everything created with the rift.

In reality the software just pings FB to check for updates, and the TOS clause is identical to all other cloud storage.

All things considered Facebook hasn't done a lot of evil with the Rift.  Very comparable to the Vive, with some different choices being made with design that are more beneficial in some respects and worse in others.

It's funny, even google gets tons of information from people.  What you're buying, what you're searching, etc.
