Quote from: DerNebel on Mar 20, 2016, 09:30 AMIf that's it then that's really disappointing. What's the point in releasing a stronger PS4, if you're limiting its extra power to just VR development? I mean at the end of the day even VR games will have to also work with the normal PS4, right? So if that's the base that all of these VR games have to achieve then why not make the power available to normal game development too?

Well its meant to be like a slim upgrade.

Like how ps2 slim had a faster clock speed but all the same games ran on fat and slim.

The better spec just made the system run better.

Hm, ok. Then this whole thing might just be a lot of noise about nothing.

As far as I've heard, from speaking to devs, kotaku have got it wrong.

But I wouldn't be surprised if Sony were looking at all options to see what fan feedback was.

But as far as I'm aware this is meant to be a PS4 Slim with slightly more upgrades than previous slim models to help out with running the system better and perhaps upscaling games or something. Probably media stuff too. But it's not this huge leap that people are talking about. The same games will work on both systems etc...

But like I said before, I could be wrong too.

Looking at the GAF thread, this seems to be a done deal.

Kinda crazy how well known this thing is.

Usually things stay a little more secretive.

But what exactly is this done deal? There seems to be three different stories.

What's the third?

We have minimal VR improvement or significant 4k improvement last I heard.

It seems...

Significant 4k improvement
Minimal VR improvement
Minimal general improvement

There will be some sort of new PS4. Whether the improvement is vastly significant or not is the debate. Some people like Zoetis (the dude that teased TLG at E3) say it's not as bad as people think. Others say it will be significant because of the new Zen APU

Quote from: ZhugeEX on Mar 19, 2016, 08:34 PMHaving known about this for a couple of weeks, I think Kotaku is wrong on the 4k gaming part.

From what I've heard it's slightly better spec PS4 to help with PS VR performance but none of the upgrades are accessible for normal game development.

But then that's just what I've been told. I'd say it's fairly reliable. But I could be totally wrong.
This is reasonable and is in line with what Sony did with the PSP and PS2.  Marginal upgrades that don't effect much.  Safe to assume they'll make some additions for VR.

I'm basing my conclusion off of Zoetis's comments.

- "Wait for E3"
- "Don't panic"
- "PS4 will still be the base. There will only be some issues for those that are jealous"
- Reinforced Ironcreed's claim that it won't be as bad as people are saying.
- Sort of repeating that PS4 will still be the base.

Reading this comment of yours again, if true, do you think Sony will release another PSVR SKU that does not include the box?

That's actually an interesting question.

If this new PS4k had an additional outputs for VR added, then they could get rid of the box.

It seems weird to do that.

If they were going to include the PSVR into a lot of PS4 bundles, then sure.
Aside from that, it doesn't really seem to make a lot of sense to do that for the PSVR.

"Hey, if you have a PS4K, you don't need to plug in this box, plug into the PS4 instead."
It's possible to do that, it just feels weird to me, to include the box with every system, especially if new systems aren't going to use it.

to me that would only make sense for a ps4/psvr bundle.  otherwise it would be too confusing for consumers to figure out which ps4 is compatible with which psvr.
