The issue is that they thing the preorders will be really low like Europe.

So everybody wants this shame (including me).

I guess Sony hold back preorder in US due what happened in EU... they don't have that much slots to take preorders.

"The core PS VR bundle, which has a suggested retail price of $399.99 USD / $549.99 CAD, is not available for pre-order."

Gaf is getting really pissed off about this line.

Saw the thread and some of the reactions, really makes you question the intelligence of some people. When was the last time in the history of consumer electronics that a new product couldn't be pre-ordered before launch and what in the world would Sony have to gain from not letting people pre-order the $400 version? The hope that people wouldn't be willing to wait and would go out and pre-order this bundle? Come on, Sony isn't stupid enough to think that something like that would work.

I think they might just want to stop all the used sales of PS cameras and Move controllers that are going on right now and want to instead get in on that train, the standalone PSVR will be open for pre-order, I guarantee it.

I'm wondering if they are finalizing some partnership with standalone (aka bundle) or if they are trying to get people whos minds weren't already made up the first cracking hoping to grab some more sales before allocating the number of standalone. Because it doesn't really make sense and Sony must know that

also, I love, love LOVE that Sony is repurposing an under performing and under utilized tech from last gen instead of abandoning it. I'm in no way ready to take the dive to Vr but I bought the move bundle for like 30 bucks when it launched and if I decide to buy vr it will make it that much easier. I also bought a camera for cheap at launch

What GAF read: "The core PS VR bundle, which has a suggested retail price of $399.99 USD / $549.99 CAD, WILL NEVER BE available for pre-order."
What it says: "The core PS VR bundle, which has a suggested retail price of $399.99 USD / $549.99 CAD, is not available for pre-order."

There's also this:

Pre-orders for just the PlayStation®VR headset are not available at the moment, but you can sign up below to receive up-to-date information on PlayStation®VR.

I wonder it the demand is higher than they expected.

Sure seems like it.

They're testing the water. Europe was to see how quickly the core package would sell. North America will be a bundle test. They'll make production orders based on the response. Sony is being very careful to not lose their dog on this. If VR fails, better that it failed and they profited or broke even instead of losing a ton of money from a bunch of unpurchased headsets laying around.

Honestly though, it's just stunning how people are.

There's tons of people raging on twitter, GAF threads, the PS Blog, about how they're upset that the PSVR standalone isn't coming.

It was as if the PS Blog said: "So there's this 499$ bundle with all this stuff.  There's also this 399$ bundle, that doesn't actually exist.  So yeah, you guys aren't getting it.  That bundle that includes just the headset? The one that costs 399$. Yeah, doesn't exist."

Some offscreen footage of Driveclub VR, starts at around 6:10min, dude apparently says that it was great, the best experience he had in VR at the event. Also DC VR will supposedly be a "very different game from normal DC" and will thus likely cost money and will not be a free update, that was to be expected though.

It's kinda interesting how hardly anyone, including Sony, is talking about this, as I really feel this game, assuming it's a launch title, will be a standout title on PSVR and actually be one of its best sellers out of the gate, unless they take out 90% of the content DC already has.
