My kneejerk reaction to this is negative but I want more details before I really form an opinion of how they're handling it.

Okay, this is either okay where it's not bad, not great either or it's very bad.

I think I'd be okay with this: 3 20$ titles.

But this just sounds like the start of a crud fest.

Hopefully it's okay...

Unless part 1 is the whole first game and there are other parts added to it, I don't see how this can be anything but negative.

It just depends on the quality. Episodic is not automatically bad. What bothers me more than anything else is the idea of each part having a "unique experience". What exactly does that mean? I don't want to play a game that kind of feels like FF15 in one part and then something dramatically different in another.

Legend

Episodic, yuck.

After seeing gameplay, this feels like a much cheaper project than FF15

Two things can happen from this.

One it is actually episodic and far more limited than what we expect from a remake

or

Two - each episode covers each Final Fantasy VII game: Before Crisis, Crisis Core, Original FFVII, Advent Children(maybe), and Dirge of Cerberus followed by an actual end to the storyline.

Regardless I can see the game getting a lot of the original content cut to make releases come out sooner than later :X

If its the first one - I'm gonna wait till the "Complete" edition is out - if its the 2nd one - day 1...for each game :O

fudge, then need to explain themselves now. They don't need to let this linger, bad press is going to kill this game.

I agree - hopefully they clarify soon...

Apparently, the amount of data being used for the game is huge which is why they're taking this approach. They're also adding new scenes into the game while keeping the basic story intact.

VGChartz's reaction specifically users who werent even planning to buy the game or hoping that it comes to WiiU or the next Nintendo platform so they can boast about it.

The internets kneejerk reaction is negative overall, with a lot of jumping to conclusions going on. Then again, when isn't it?

I personally don't really like the sound of it but lets see how they price the parts, how big they'll be and if that means the first part's coming way earlier than expected.

Seeing more articles popping up about this with interviews. From what Kitase and Nomura are saying, if they didn't break the game down into episodes then development would be far too long and certain parts of the game would have to be cut or reduced to little more than sidenotes. Doing it this way allows them to completely recreate the original the way we saw them doing it in the recent trailer without having to compromise the things people expect to see.

They've also talked about the combat system. ATB and Limit Breaks will return but because the game is more action-oriented than the original the ATB gauge won't work exactly as it used to. It sounds more like the ATB is there to prevent you from spamming powerful attacks, though that's mostly conjecture on my part. They've also said that you will have up to three characters in your party, just like the original. You can swap which character you control at any given time or you can just keep using your favorite character if you like.
