Some details are things that were already rumored but it sounds like a lot of what we heard before is true.

Sucks that they couldn't find a good formula. Sounds like a cool concept.

What I find most baffling is that they let this game get like 4 years into development before finally pulling the plug on it. They could have easily avoided firing so many people and having this blow such a huge hole into their lineup if they scratched the project early on and went back to the drawing board.

Not too surprised that the game wasn't up to par though, SSM really seems kinda overrated to me.

Such a shame it didnt work. I love SSM and would have loved a game like this from them.

The concept sounded great

I'm pretty sure they went through a few major changes that initially looked like it would work. What I think was a bigger factor, though, was Stig Asmussen. Sometimes you give someone the benefit of the doubt and it doesn't work. They probably thought, "He's been with us a long time, been a major part of every God of War game we made including taking over as director of the third game when Barlog left, and he insists he can make this work". Was it the wrong call? Clearly. Sometimes companies gamble and this is one of those times where I think Sony's praised hands-off approach bit them in the dog.

There is also the possibility that Sony REALLY wanted this game to work out. It sounds like it would have filled a nice role in their portfolio for PS4. It was also likely intended to be a launch title or a year one title. I'm willing to bet Sony found themselves between a rock and a hard place. They wanted something potentially huge and if they gave up on it too early it would leave a gap. So they crossed their fingers and got let down.

The concept sounds somewhat similar to this game...

They cancelled it for a good reason to be honest.
Legend made me remove this. Everybody riot.

You can see why then took such a hard stance with ready at dawn. They weren't risking forking out a load of cash to buy them out.  And rightly so.  Even as multiplatform their games will still sell very well on ps4 in future providing they're actually good.
