QuoteWhile the game's file size is definitely big, it's maybe not as big as you were expecting. Compression techniques and clever use of assets could certainly help compact the game. A decent chunk of that 28GB will be dedicated to dialogue, as Fallout 4 has more spoken lines than Skyrim and Fallout 3 combined.

That's amazing. I wish all devs compressed like that, I wouldn't have to delete so many games off my PS4.

It's probably just a lot of reused assets plus the game lacks pre rendered video.

Most games can't be compressed that much.

Good point, well I guess the game will still be excellent since its a bethesda game so I don't think that will detract from the game at all.

Compared to the last game, this one is 5x the size.
A lot of space for better assets, more features, and stuff!

All open world games re-use assets. It's not a problem, just the way they work.

How is this 28GB when so many others are pretty much double that, though? DA: I is 56.88GB, GTA V is 57.31GB, Batman is 55.95GB. They've done something extremely impressive, for sure

Wouldn't know without playing. So many different factors go into a game's file size, and often there's just little incentive to optimize beyond fitting on the disc.

Probably a lot of reused assets, and slightly worse assets.

Yeah asset reuse is important for file size.  MGS 4 when you take out the videos and audio is 22 gigs.  All cause there's very little asset reuse between acts.

Well DA:I and Batman at least look significantly better than Fallout 4 visually. Probably higher res textures.

GTAV is just massive with a very interactive world.
