Quote from: Legend on Apr 23, 2023, 06:00 PMI think I worded that poorly and let a bit too much of my frustration seep through. I never brute forced puzzles (except the one after the diving suit where you seemingly need to brute force the 5th number). Instead it felt like there was poor "cause and effect" in the game. Like for example this from the game:

Spoiler for Hidden:

There's no hint that leads you here. You know it probably has something to do with blue light but it's just exhausting all possibilities until you try putting the blue spotlight on this specific object. Some players will get lucky and discover this pretty quickly, but in my case I only shined the spotlight at different areas.

Crazy that you liked it more than Obduction!
That blue light bit took me ages. Yeah you're right about that. Brute forcing the 5th number was also little strange I agree.
Obduction was a way more polished game with a better story and if I scored both I'd put Obduction above Quern easily because of the overall package. But I feel like I enjoyed Quern more, I enjoy Quern type of puzzles more.

I wish I liked quern more. The puzzles with the plant and position area were pretty cool most of the time. Just on its puzzles though, I'd still rank it below everything from Cyan.

Started 2 games recently. Call of the Sea, an adventure puzzle game, which is ok so far. Story not bad but nothing original and puzzles a little bland and too easy so far. Still early into the game.

Also playing a game recommended by legend, 7 Days to End With You. Very Unique very you have to work out the foreign language by slowly learning what each word is. I'm struggling to decipher the words but really like the challenge so far. Any tips Legend?

I kinda liked call of the sea. I think about it far more than most mediocre games. Also fun that the character is from Colorado, although they mispronounced Englewood lol.

One thing that's good to know is that the game is only 7 days long (shocker). You're expected to play it multiple times and not have everything figured out by the end of your first playthrough.

Dr. Pezus

Finished Miles Morales. A fun, decent game that lasted me a few weeks despite being short. Plot wasn't amazing.

Really liking the Call of the Sea, I think I'm reachingthe end. The story is pretty good and the voice acting, even if a little over dramatic, is on par. Puzzles are only a little challenging but still enjoyable.

Played 15 minutes of Riven and got a refund fir the Myst collection lol. I was prepared fie dated graphics but didn't realise it was a point and click. I don't mind point and click in the styles of Broken Sword or The Room but it's a bit tedious when you have to click to move a short distant or to rotate 90 degree or to look up.

I would of enjoyed this game 25 years ago but today it sucks the soul out of me. I will check out the other Myst games and buy 3,4 and 5 individually if the are true 3D like the Myst remaster.

Riven is getting a 3D remaster luckily.

3 and 4 are also point and click, but they at least upgraded to 360 panoramic pictures.

I didn't realise the Myst games where this style. I played the remaster/remake of Myst "1" and presumed it was just a visual upgrade.

Myst was first converted to 3D in 2000 so many people have only experienced it that way.

Riven has a cool moment that wouldn't translate well to 3D. Wonder how they'll handle it in the remake.

the point and click of myst, riven, exile were probably a result of technical limitations but I still like it.

I kind of do but also find it tedious to look around with that system.

It's strange because even though I'm quite an impatient person, I can spend hours running around trying to solve 1 puzzle but 5 minutes of looking around in 90° increments was enough for me even though the puzzles seemed interesting.

I would of loved this game when it released, it's like the old school text adventures on steroids but modern games have spoilt us.

Started a new game called Puzzle Park. So far not bad. It's inspired by The Witness but not as clever and the puzzles so far aren't too difficult but hard enough to be satisfying to solve.

Also finished Call of the Sea. I enjoyed the puzzles but the story is where it really shone.

Also bought Logic - Keypad which looks cool enough to pass a bit of time.

Also I need to get back into Outer Wilds. Like the idea of the breaking the loop to progress, wasn't expecting that.

Also gotta try and get into 7 Days Ends with You. I think I'll enjoy it but got to be in the right mood.

Puzzle Park was ok. Worth the £5 for a few hours of puzzle solving. Just started Logic - Keypad and it is very rough. Even more rough than Puzzle Park but still enjoying it. One of my main gripes with LK is that some puzzles are that are connected to another people doesn't really you give you any inkling that they are connected.

But what I'm really excited for is Disco Elysium. It just had a 75% discount down to £8 so can't wait to give that a go

Legend

I played a half hour of Wolfenstein Youngblood. I can see why it reviewed almost as low as redfall lol.

The main characters act like 12 year olds and the story is non existent.
