I've still got a phat ps3 that's over 7 years old at this point.  I still buy and play ps3 games and will for years to come.  So I want to replace my ps3 with a new one that will last for the next 10/20 years.

So my question is.  Is ps3 likely to receive anymore hardware revisions?  Is it likely to receive one last pricecut?

It's very pricey still so hopefully they give it one last cut.  If nothing comes by the end of this year should I just accept Sony are not investing anymore into the hardware and the price of a PS3 is never going to officially drop?

It's anyone's guess at this point. The PS2 received one last hardware revision when the PS3 was released.  They put the power brick back into the PS2, they also technically raised the price by putting Lego Batman into the fold as a bundle.  I personally hope Sony makes a proper system on a chip for it.  They might be able to make one last small console.  But I doubt they will.  There might be one last price cut, but I'm not sure if it's going to happen.  It's becoming ever more difficult to manufacture PS3s.  I personally might get my fat PS3's gpu reballed, since I got a ylod last year.  But I'm not sure.  I just wanna finish my PS3 games off.  Other than a handful of games, there's not much I would replay (My backlog is huge though).  So once I get through my backlog I plan to retire my PS3.

Doubt we'll get a large revision. The thing is using custom and dated hardware that will only improve if Sony invests in it. PS3 is just not selling enough for that to be reasonable.

A price cut though? Definitely! This thing isn't going away anytime soon, specifically for ROW markets. Honestly I bet the PS3 price cut will be announced with the PS4 price cut within the next couple months.

Please god.  it costs 289 euro for a PS3 500gb on its own where I live.  You could get it for 249 I bet if I looked around.

I just wish they cut it to 199 or 149. What's the lowest they could sell it at a profit?? I reckon it's 149 but they're going for profit over sales lately.  Guess they just want to call it quits now that ps4 has restored their dominance.

Microsoft and Sony just made their hardware way too expensive.  The costs just can't get down any further.  I also think Sony was hoping for Apple to pick up cell for their desktops.  That would have driven investments into the architecture to the point of a good shrinkage.  Never happened.  There needs to be a massive die shrink to save coin.
