Eh, mechanically pooping is no different than having resources dug up. I feel like I'm the only one that has a middle ground opinion on this change log.

You should no by now, there's no middle ground with No Man's Sky for its community, either it's the best thing ever or it's a complete fudge up.

Not really. Expectations should be tempered but I don't think it will be awful or even bad. Just not amazing or much less revelutionary imo.

This video has been going the rounds as an example of how NMS space combat is awesome:

Either that player sucks or the combat sucks.
Spoiler for Hidden:

The circles in front of the ships are where you're supposed to be aiming like in standard dogfighting, but the player keeps seemingly ignoring them and still destroying ships. Plus that menu is just stupid. It's annoying to have to manually refuel things and it doesn't even pause the game. Seems likely the next update will patch this out since it has near universal dislike.

The game itself looks generally average. Not bad by any means, but not a GOTY contender either. There'll be a niche group of gamers that love it flaws and all while there will also be a group calling Sean Murray the new Peter Molyneux. This decisiveness makes it hard to tell what's really going on.

I think really only the metacritic score can determine if the launch is a disaster or not. That's an absolute number that will control the tone of conversation. If it's below 70, all hell will break lose. If it's above 80, it could be a mega hit for the time being.

Personally I'm pretty hyped for it. I never understood the early craze for the game but I've always been interested since I love space. Plus I'm a stupid nerd+dev that wants to explore their procedural generation system.

The hype has definitely been the best and worst things for this game's success. One thing that cracks me up is early on people asked "but what do you do" and fans freaked out about how that's the point of the game: you do whatever you want to do. They made joke mockups like this:

Now with the final game it's incredibly gameplay focused and has text on screen telling you exactly what to do.

(other images show the waypoint markers)

Personally I like the change and it's made me way more hyped, but it shows that so much interest in the game has been generated by their lack of communication.

This looks very nice.

Love the shoreline.

If you want to get yourself hyped, just watch this:

Legend

Planet sizes!!!!!

Cause I'm too hyped to do anything productive

92 thousand Ks diameter

185 thousand Ks

19 thousand Ks

250 thousand Ks

143 thousand first picture, 134 thousand second picture. Only planet I found multiple pictures of, so it does a good job of showing the results are decent but far from perfect.

167 thousand Ks

232 thousand Ks

106 thousand Ks

The largest planet I found a picture of is "Paradise" at 250 thousand Ks. If one Ks equals 50 meters, then that would make it the size of Earth.

(If any of you guys notice signs that I'm falling victim to the zeitgeist and thinking of buying on PS4 to get it 3 days early, please snap some sense back into me)

Just wait for reviews and more player impressions, not like people can spoil your adventure for you (technically).

Well I want to get it on PC so that's not till Friday.

Reading good reviews just makes me want to buy on PS4 more!

103 Km diameter from the stream. Seams the patch didn't change sizes.

It's fun reading all these NMS launch threads with people hyping out over extremely standard things. It's like no one ever played a space game before.

I love seeing new people discover one of my favorite genres  ;D
