Apple Pulls Seemingly All American Civil War Games
QuoteIf you've been watching the news recently, you'll know of the huge debate in the U.S over the role of the Confederate flag in contemporary America. Many see it as a reminder of the many pre-Civil War injustices while others see it simply as a way to honor the soldiers who died for the Confederacy. Many large US companies, like Walmart and Amazon, have already banned the sale of any Confederate flag merchandise as a reaction to the recent events. Now, it appears that Apple has decided to join them by pulling many Civil War wargames from the App Store. As of the writing of this story, games like Ultimate General: Gettysburg and all the Hunted Cow Civil War games are nowhere to be found. Apple is famous for reaching for the axe rather than the scalpel when it comes to political issues (like rejecting Hunted Cow's Tank Battle 1942 for depicting Germans and Russians as enemies), so this move doesn't come as a great surprise.

Update: It's looking like Apple has pulled everything from the App Store that features a Confederate flag, regardless of context. The reasoning Apple is sending developers is "...because it includes images of the confederate flag used in offensive and mean-spirited ways." We just spoke with Andrew from HexWar Games, who have released many historical strategy games. He insists, "We're in no way sympathetic to the use of the flag in an offensive way, we used it purely because historically that was the flag that was used at the time."

I wonder if they will now pull any ww2 games that have swastikas

Amazon, Walmart and Ebay all took down confederate flag sales...
While I am not one who sees the flag one way or the other, I do see it more as an infringement on First Amendment Rights and that's scarier to me.
The leader of the Nation of Islam(not actual muslim group, but a weird american cult-like version) is now calling for the american flag to be taken down as well...

Watching all this stuff go down I have a greater appreciation of trolls since the way things seem to be going is that you have freedom of speech unless you hurt someone's feelings...

I get why people don't like the flag, I get why it shouldn't be displayed in front of government buildings. But at the same time banning the sale of that flag or games that use it is stupid. To most people that flag stands for something very different,  than what others make it out to be  .

The funny part is that the democrats are the ones who put it there lol democrats love to use racial division to pretend they are on the side of the people...

I think if you know something can be offensive to someone than it should be very carefully chosen how to use or display such a thing, government buildings is definitely not a place to display something that has come to represent such hate in our country even though that's not truly what it represents. Just like the swastika it was a symbol of peace that the nazi's defiled... leave it to a few ignorant crazy scumbags to ruin it for the rest of us.

You have to have a major mental issue to be racist and very gullible to believe that the other side of the coin is not racism as well... friggen SJW's

What a terrible loss!

Seriously though, sounds like Apple is overreacting. Should this issue and the flag not be talked about at all now? Do people want to bury history?
