Adam Boyes, head of third-party developer relations at PlayStation, told me at E3 that he's known about Square's Final Fantasy VII remake for a year. It was a fun secret to keep.

I'm quite impressed that Sony managed to keep it a secret for so long. Well, I remember Kyoufu making a bet on GAF on FFVII: Re, so technically it was kinda leaked. However, at that time, me among many others thought he just lost it.

I ultimately think it was a good idea.  Fans are going to want to replay FF7 before the remake.  This will be the best way for them.  Plus give a little funds to Square Enix for the remake.
