Legend,.. i'm mostly going wanting to ask you this because you're the one making a game for playstation...

...is there any reason someone couldn't release an emulator on psn to play snes games?   also, when you're a multi-millionare for following through on this idea make sure you put me in the credits.

You can make an emulator just fine. The problem is in getting isos into it. PS4 is a closed system and will only run code that has been checked off and verified. No way to give the emulator anything to run.

The media player is streaming the media. There's no non native code running on the system. Plus it's handled by Sony and the system itself. It's not something games or apps have access to.

Basically the only possibility is figuring out some strange work around allowing isos to be loaded and played. If you discover that, then it's a huge security breach and will be silently patched out in the next update. "Stability" updates are often "anti-piracy" updates.

I think you need to enter in agree with Nintendo (paying royalties).

That is the only commercial way.

@kitler53

Dreamcast had a commercial PS1 emulator allowed by Sony.

It was called Bleem!

So if a company get the agree from Sony and Nintendo (playing the royalties) then they can launch a commercial emulator to PS4 just fine... like a App.

Bleem was a PS1 emulator for PC and dreamcast.

It was a mistake ::P wanted to write Dreamcast instead SNES lol

It is exactly what he wants... a commercial emulator on PS4 for SNES games... Bleem! was a commercial emulator for Dreamcast for PS1 games.

I think it would be cool if the media server would let you stream games from a pc or ps3
perhaps it would have a bit of latency sending controller input through to the host machine though, but would probably work as well as PS NOW

Nintendo and Sony need to get in agreement... and a commercial company needs to get in talk with them.

If Nintendo and Sony allow SNES games on PS4 then the company can make the emulator and sell the games there.

I doubt Nintendo or Sony will allow that.

And Bleem! was a commercial failure lol I don't see other company trying the same.

That is already possible.

You can run a emulator on your PC and stream the video to PS4 via DLNA.

There is latency input but it works.

I actually doubt Nintendo would even have the rights to do that for anything except their first party games. Third parties would retain the rights against it.

Ohhhhhh I forgot there is a third-party involved... to be fair I guess it is inviable commercially.

In PC it works because the ROM is illegal :P

Technically the rom is legal, the distribution of one is not.
At least in the US.  It's completely legal, as long as it's basically a back up copy.

PS2 emulation for example.
Requires an emulator, a copy of the bios, and a game.
Using a disk is of course legal, and to get a legal copy of the bios you have to dump it from your own PS2.

The part of it that would require third parties is the distribution aspect.
