I feel like MS didn't have any big announcements... B/C for 360 is decent, and game preview, but I thought both MS and Sony planned the latter feature anyways

Yeah Microsoft lacked megatons, but they still put together a nice show. Plus even though the hololens demo won't work that good, the audience lapped it up.

They changed it so that instead of the minecraft world being built around your room, a square portal opens up into the world.

Fixes all the issues I pointed out with their initial reveal. However now this implementation would work better in VR than AR.

Yeah. No matter how you try to do it, the better option for a more core gaming experience is to put the player in the world. Not put the world in a limited space in front of the player.
