Joker is performing better than expected at the box office pretty much everywhere in the world. $13.3m domestic thursday previews is a fantastic new October record.

General audience WOM is great as well. Could be in for a good run here, perhaps that gaping $300m hole in the 2019 WW chart between #6 (Aladdin $1.05b) and #7 (Hobbs and Shaw $750m) will be filled.

Joker is having a dream run so far, with big openings everywhere (new October record domestic, international and worldwide) and incredible looking legs.

Seems set for $800m or maybe higher, which is a simple phenomenal total without a China release for a film with only $55m budget. This may well end up as the 2nd most profitable film of the year after Endgame.

It is very weird how pretty much everything Tony Stark does is apparently impossible for everyone else in that world. There's not really any reasonable explanation for it either.

El Camino, breaking bad movie is out! Getting great reviews. Must watch it

Legend

I guess I should go see Joker. Was confused when the first trailer came out. Thought it was related to suicide squad at first.

Joker's run just gets more and more insane. A 43% drop 2nd weekend domestic, which is probably a slight overestimate as well. That's the best ever for a comic book movie.

The international hold is even more insane, with just a 32% drop in the same markets and strong openings in France and Germany as well. UK hold is a crazy -20%.

This is a zeitgeist movie, everyone's talking about it. Could well be on for $1b if legs stay this good. An R-rated movie with no action, not releasing in China, only a $60m budget. Simply bonkers, in a year of Aladdin and Endgame this may end up the most impressive box office run. $544m is the total after the second weekend.

Funny what happens when you make a good movie.

Plus DC fans are pretty starved for a good movie.  :P

Legend

It's cool that DC has pulled itself together.

Saw Zombieland 2, was actually really great. Liked it better than the first one. Middle was a bit boring.

I need to see it in motion before judging.

What do people think?

Presales also went up with this and its a fairly strong start. We need to hear from Fandango but so far it looks to be inbetween Infinity War and Endgame day 1 sales, just like TFA, TLJ and Rogue One. I'm very interested to see where the OW will fall, will it bounce back from the drop of $247->$220m between TFA and TLJ? Will it set a new star wars record? Exciting times, although we got a long time to wait.

Why are they riding horse things?  ???

Outside of that, trailer didn't really hit me one way or another. The audio felt off with the voiceover being way too quiet. Probably will go see it on my birthday.

Yeah that's what I thought as well, it was an okay trailer. Anyways here's the top 5 first 24 hours ticket sales as estimated by a BOT insider/ expert (US only):

  • Avengers: Endgame: $37mn Approx
  • Star Wars: The Force Awakens: $25mn Approx
  • Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: $18mn Approx
  • Star Wars: The Last Jedi
  • Avengers: Infinity War: $14mn
