i dunno.  not saying they shouldn't.  just saying it's probably not a easy yes either.
Dont think it's easy at all. Look at crytek and unity. Its very difficult and needs funding. But sony has that, and i believe it can be a rather profitable investment if it works.

The gaming market has expanded a lot. Revenue isn't just generated from selling games. There is e-sports, twitch streams, dlc, add ons, gaming gear/peripheral, and development software, support studios. Sony extending into these spaces makes sense. They already are into e-sports.

Their games are already going multiplatform. Why not have their development software be too and make money off of it?

Legend would never ban you for life, just a smack on the wrist and put in the naughty corner for an hour.

It's the best time to do it.

Plus they could expand into virtual production too. Sony Pictures uses Unreal a ton and if Decima proved itself, they'd be an easy customer.

QuoteVideo games developer Firesprite is to relocate its Liverpool city centre operation and is taking 50,000 sq ft at the Duke & Parr building in Duke Street.

A subsidiary of entertainment giant Sony, Firesprite will move from its current home in the Vanilla Factory in Fleet Street to the former headquarters of Bibby Line Group. It will house up to 400 staff at the building where it has taken an 11.5-year lease.

Didn't they just cancel a game and do layoffs? Guess they're still growing.

Haven't heard exactly if there were layoffs or if people were moved to other projects.

Still have 3 games in development announced/hiring for.

Still a big studio.

Horizon

I think they re-prioritised what to work on. They're probably finished Horizon VR so can focus on Twisted Metal and the narrative game. 3 games for a studio of 250 is a lot to take on.

I suspect that's the case.

Although they're over 300 now. ;)

happens all the time i'm sure.     ...not sure any of our lives are made better by trying to get a glimpse of how the sausage is made.

Job opening for Firesprite's multiplayer action game, which is assumed to be Twisted Metal has a mention for VR experience being useful.

First indication it might be a hybrid title.

Wouldn't be surprised if their other game is similar.

It seems like Firesprite is really becoming the VR studio.

my hotake,... twisted metal will be (or at least will support) a cockpit view.

it wouldn't be my ideal senario but if sony supports VR by just saying all 1st party games need to at least consider the idea of supporting VR that would make it at least not useless.  not every title will translate well to VR without making major changes but a lot would function well enough as just a:
- hit a high framerate
- allow headset camera control
- stick with the dualsense controller
