Could this lead to Bungie being fully ran by Sony?

Long term sure but only if the studio really screws up imo. It took 343i four failures/partial failures in a row for their leadership to get a shakeup.

Someone just shared lots of terrible reviews from Firesprite, it doesn't paint a good picture.

I think Firesprite will go through some growing pains. They're still a fair young studio working on multiple projects which is a huge undertaking. It's why I am more optimistic about Bluepoint and Housemarque as they have their culture and identity established. Ultimately I feel like Firesprite should just focus on getting out on game first before focusing on multiple games. Sounds like the AAA narrative game is much further along than Twisted Metal anyway.

New Revelations About ‘Destiny 2’ Declines, Bungie Layoffs And Final Shape As Make Or Break

QuoteInternally, really no one is blaming Sony for this, even management. Some employees were told that if the Sony buyout did not happen, that with current Destiny 2 performance the studio itself would have been in jeopardy if they were still independent.

destiny 2 was like the only game i played for a couple years.   at it's core it is an incredible game.   i just got burnt out by the "hamster wheel" of grinding to max out me gear only to have a new season land and nullify my gear basically the day i maxed out.

i always felt like WoW did the same thing but better.   loot wasn't so RND so you at least knew what you were grinding for.   if you got it was RND but not what you wanted.   expansions were further apart so you could spend some time in the level up phase of the game and then some time in the max level part of the game which added some variety.  burning shores was the only expansion where you're previous gear was immediately irrelevant,.. you'd get better gear eventually but a really high piece of gear from the previous expansion was better than a lowbie gear from the next expansion.

just everything was better balanced to entice me to keep playing.

that and the classes in WoW were much much more varied which got me to reroll in each of the classes eventually.   destiny classes had no meaningful distinction for a long time.   it got better but not better enough to motivate me to play multiple classes.

once i fell off of destiny it seemed to daunting to get back in.

Horizon

Let's take a fun go/bet for next year. Which studio is announcing a game next year?

My bet:

Bluepoint
Sucker Punch
Naughty Dog
Team Asobi

We had been doing this in the prediction threads.

Probably a good time to start a 2024 prediction thread.

i'm not taking that bet.   from what little behind the scenes gossip we get it seems like things are not going well for sony.

ND's game was "canceled" so they might not have anything for another 6 years.
bungie very well may be imploding
firesprite is having issues
MM is having issues as well

i'm being a bit facetious here but if sony didn't have even 1 announcement from an internal studio next year i wouldn't be surprised.

Add Insomniac and Guerilla and that'd be my list.

Their mp Horizon thing needs to become official one of these days, unless it was cancelled too...

GG is at least a pretty stable competent developer and unlike ND they had quite a bit of mp under their belt via killzone.    also the pitch of "(Robot Dinosaur) monster hunter" makes like immediate sense to me.

ND made multiplayer modes for Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3, Uncharted 4, The Last of Us....

General vibes have been ND has made great multiplayer modes, but broke them afterwards by messing with the balancing.

Uncharted 2 was considered to have great multiplayer until 1.05

Horizon

I feel like Horizon is much easier to transition into a GAAS than TLOU.

You already have the open world, weapons, tribes, RPG mechanics, RPG tools etc to accommodate for it.

Apparently Sony cut their forecast of 12 live service games before the end of 2025 down to 6.

Mostly due to delays it sounds like.
