you have to be going at least a minium distance to make flying worth it.   maybe ya'll can get in/out faster than me but a flight means going to the airport like 4 hours before the flight and from the airport to a hotel likely adds another 2 hours.   add in the flight time and even the shortest of flights takes up a day of travel time.   also it's pretty stressful.

driving chicago can be stressful too but the highways between cities can be quite nice sometimes.

my brother is in twin cities Mn and it's not even a question if i'm going to drive.   the drive is ~6.5 hours.  The flight would probably be 8 hours and loads more expensive.   that trip is just over 400 miles.

we flew to NYC which is just under 800 miles.   helps that once we got to NYC having a car would have been a detriment not an asset.

Yeah honestly Indianapolis doesn't have tons of direct flights to Orlando, especially at this time of the year. Most all delta is through Atlanta, which can be a shame show for normal operations let alone with this garbage going on now.  We had a direct flights with spirit a few months ago but those idiots changed their schedule and had us flying into New Jersey at 5am then layover another 5 hours before flying to Orlando.

So we went American with the charlotte layover. We are about an hour or so from the Indy so by the time we actually would land in Florida it's already 10ish hours of travel time. So it really wasn't that much more to drive. Just being cramped in the car for longer but not that bad

Direct flights are also a decent bit more expensive sometimes

a bit of insider knowledge here,.. i haven't seen any news on this.   scouting america is officially allowing co-gender troops.

there was a "pilot program" going on for the last year.   today my troop was informed that the "family troop" will be officially supported as a 3rd option (boy only, girl only) on Dec 15th.   a bit of a sigh of relief here as if they didn't approve that our troop would totally have blown up.   it's kind of amazing how liberal scouting as become since i was a kid.    not like liberal liberal but like tolerant and respectful of women.

My troop as a kid always had a girl. She of course wasn't an official boy scout but I remember her at most meetings and outings.

This is a little silly.

I try to do accounting for my media spending. I want to kind of limit how much I'm spending per month.

There are some silly situations that feel like they take more work to account for.

Like if I put in a preorder, I have to account for that in the month it comes out.

One thing that often comes up, is that Amazon will often have some orders that are expected to be like 2 months out. So sometimes those feel a little silly, because you might account for something being in 2 months, but they come 6 weeks early.

I know I could micromanage, and just set the date based on when it actually gets taken out of the bank.

Why do you not just go with when you buy the movie? That's how I'd do it if I couldn't just look at a monthly credit card bill.

That's how I do it most of the time.

Buying 2 more routers for my mesh network.

I have two right now, but they're both on the one side of the house. We have a few more devices on the other side of the house now.

Spoiler for Hidden:

These are nice, you can connect them with wires too.  The new ones are 2.5 Gbps ports, and the current ones I have are 1 Gbps ports. Part of the reason I wanted to upgrade. Should be 2.5x my bandwidth of my server.

I kind of feel silly for buying these. But there have been some connection issues on the other side of the house. Like my Apple TV can't play 4k content even though it really should be able to.  And even weirder is that the kids Roku can't stream some things without greatly reducing the quality. It was struggling to play 1080p content, so I dropped it down to like low 720p.

They work well? Ive always had issues with extendors and stuff. I have a small little one in the backyard that i got from the trash, kinda works.

Yeah, but these are pricey. Each one is a full fledged router. They run several different networks.
I'm still running the same ones from this post:

QuoteDoes anyone have a paid wi-fi router, or are people just using what their ISP gives them?

I bought some Deco's a year ago, and those are kinda cool. The ISP routers are usually very bare bones feature wise.

Like apparently I could set up a VPN client and/or server on the router. I could set up different networks for IoT, WIFI 6Ghz. Prioritize devices, secure different things. And I can adjust this stuff from the app.

I mean none of it is crazy stuff, but ISP routers usually barely do anything; so it feels kind of cool by comparison.
At this point the old ones have paid for themselves compared to the ISP router.

They're still really nice.
