Yes and no. 
On the one hand, they have the plus of conformity and being quantifiable.  Because there is a small number of options that everyone has to choose from, everyone is going to pick one of the options.  So this means it's easy to compare A to B. 
On the other hand, they have the minus of conformity.  There being a limited number of options means that the full breadth of choices is impossible. 
So say we have a poll asking about favorite colors, it would be impossible for every answer to be available.  But it does still have the advantage of being easily quantifiable.  So if we wanted to compare how popular red was against blue, this'd be an easy option. 

On the same hand, they have the minus of being more difficult to be well thought out I think. 
Especially when we get into two poll questions in one.  I think a lot of polls are too narrow to really fulfill the question they are asking.  Especially when comparing something to a fan base.  Like determining the favorite color of a fan base.  We start running into very difficult problems for the average poll.
