Buying a game before the system?

What the title says, have you done it?

PS3 - I owned LittleBigPlanet a few weeks before I was even for sure getting a PS3. 
PC* - I started getting a few games before I got everything.  Most notably Skyrim.   
Vita - Started collecting free games and started downloading games to move to my Vita long before I was even going to get one.

I bought Kingdom Hearts 3DS two years ago for BF.

PS3 - Star Ocean The Last Hope International  (2 months before purchase)
WiiU - Mario Kart 8

I've never done it. Buying a system is just so expensive, I'd rather just get the game I want when I purchase the system.
