So. 1.5 to 1.6 billion seems likely then for final totals.  Even if you consider the 2x box office for making money, and the reported 400 million budget, I still see this movie making anywhere from 300 to 500 million in profit. Obviously depending on other factors.  Then you consider way of water made 2.3 billion, that movie easily covered budgets from both movies.  There just can't be any world where a trilogy of movies making pretty much 7 billion in box office isn't a success and warrant the last 2 movies.

I think a longer gap from 3 to 4 than what 2 to 3 was will help tremendously in potentially driving box office back to 2 billion for 4.  I know Cameron is considering ways to cut budgets for the next ones.  I think removing 30 minutes of runtime from each and keeping them around 2hrs 45 minutes will work and won't be as big of a day for someone to go watch the movie.

Yeah if they don't consider this a success then the studio heads are out of their minds. But of course you need to consider how much merch avatar sells. I don't feel like it's a merch machine as starwars or marvel. Probably no where even close too.

Also streaming now has iced things up. This will probably end up on Disney+ soon, and subs aren't directly linked to avatar.

Yeah I don't think they sell much merch. I'm expecting blu ray and digital in mid March or so. Probably not Disney+ till summer I'd bet. They definitely do well with avatar world at Disney world.

The digital prime video version will likely sell really well
