okay, then i think comparisons that exclude OS costs are pretty valid for the steam machine then.   but yeah, in general PC builds usually leave that out and that is a pretty significant cost to building a PC.

we already have a bad stuff thread to discuss that...

Quote from: kitler53 on Jun 24, 2026, 11:01 AMlet me guess,  that build doesn't include things like a case or power supply?  ..and of course doesn't have features like being able to wake up from the controller?

so a typical PC build that is full of BS..
They included everything in the price I believe. But it did draw more power.

Also they showed suspend and resume, it did that even better than valve's.

I think the only feature it lacked was hdmi cec. Prob was louder and def was a worse form factor.

Well that is pretty funny and stupid. They must have expected this.

imaging using valve IP to decorate valve hardware and not getting rights.   did you think they wouldn't notice??

Has anyone been super positive on it?

there are quite a few on era saying they are going from ps5 to steam machine to protest ps6's lack of physical discs..

Very smart. Technically Steam Machine lets you make your own physical copies.

Just get a while bunch of SD cards, copy a game over.

2. i hate how they talk about "online" costing $130.  if all you want in "online" there is a cheaper tier and the tier they compared to comes with tons of games that for me and most others really justify the cost.

but costing soo much more while not even performing as good as the ps5 is pretty terrible.

You can find better pricing for Steam games outside of Steam.

Fanatical and Humble sell games for much better prices than anything you would see on Steam, PSN and Eshop.

Hard to be so if my 2023 rig which cost $1,400 at the time (and is now $2,300) has better specs than the Steam machine.

I've looked at humble from time to time and I wouldn't consider it good.

cheap price maybe but on a collection of a bunch of games I would never want to play.  maybe 1 okay game but then the price isn't cheap enough for the one game.

humble is like the ps+ of PC.  I get hundreds of games for my $130 but only a handful are worth more than $0 for me.

also I buy my PSN and eshop money at a 15% discount which applies so anything I buy there.

I don't engage with key sites.  don't care how cheap they are I don't want to get a discount because of credit card fraud and identity theft or regional price abuse.

Honestly I'm glad to pay PS+ essentials, get the free games, and avoid cheaters. This isn't something that's talked about a lot, but PC is riddled with cheaters, playing online is just not worth it.
